Post by zookster666 »

i have been doing some research but havent found the answers im looking for.

im looking at buying a gq patrol td42t i want to know what to look out for with these engines and what are other common problems that occur with td42t's
also anything else to look out for in the gq's

its a factory turbo setup if that helps it also has a 6'' lift fitted

thanks in advance ;)

hey mate ,just to let you know gq patrols never came turboed from the factory in td42 motor must be an aftermarket or td42t changeover ,anyway there are a few things to look out for in gqs and im sure i dont know em all ,also is it bodylifted because that will add to the checklist
*rusty rear window frames
*cracked floor around body mounts (if body lifted)
*check for play in front wheels (up and down ,side to side )for loose wheel and kingpin bearings
*bushes (can be $$$ if there all stuffed )
*unis ,pinion bearing play
*RUST ,even though patrols arnt that bad for it check thoughrouly
*get underneath check for any damage
*the td42 is a good motor and hasnt got any real issues ( ive owned three diffrent patrols all with td42 motors and i love em ) but obviosly drive it and push it a bit make sure its putting out good power, even though these donks are bullet proof the fuel pump may play up,(one of mine did)check for overheating aswell
*check under the carpet for signs of drowning ,like rust or eccesive mud it does happen and will f#%k even the mighty patrol
*cracked seat rails in series 1

all i can think of right now hope this helps and enjoy ya new truck

Hey mate

just a few other

Make sure its had 5,000km oil changes, if it doesn't walk away unless you have the money for a new motor. I’ve learnt that the hard way thanks to the previous owner of my patrol

Take a magnet with you that way you’ll be able to tell if It has any filler (from rust repairs or dents) check all gutters, rear windows and bottom of the barn doors.

6" lift
How and with what ???
Body spring ???
If body lifted has it been approved ???

Theres a mob in brissie ,called "State Roads" they do vehicle inspections
If they are still around drop em a line
They can inspect it from a thorough mechanical to a thorough body, even check paint thickness
IF your unsure of exactly what your looking at best to get an independant person/mob to check it out
State roads are independant of car yards (if thats where your buying it)
The car yard cannot see the inspection unless they are paying for it
Great for bargaining power
DONT solely rely on the RWC,not worth zak
