VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big HP
VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big HP
Hi All, I have spent 4 or 5 hours researching this and cannot seem to find an actual list of parts used in a vh45det turbo / twin turbo. I'm writing a project plan and looking for required parts to go buy. I would love to know what others are using which is tested and proven parts in their vh45 turbos.
I am looking for around 650HP with a single or twin turbo setup. I am still researching the best setup, leaning towards a single at the moment.
Looking for the following plus any other, valve springs, valves, rods, pistons, what compression to run, turbos and wastegates to use (going to use external gates), Injectors, cams ( This is a big one, would love specs but not many people willing to give these out. Transmission, stall converter (looking at a 2 speed power glide) What kind of porting to go, inlet and outlet manifolds are sorted but still willing to listen to advice.
Thanks in advance. Email below for anyone who wishes to use it. Looking forward to any answers.
If anyone is in Melbourne Australia would love to hear from you also.
Craig

Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
Why that and not a 4.8? A TB48 is easier to turbo, larger capacity and will make substantially better torque at low rpm which is more suited to a heavy vehicle. The VH45 is cool engine but designed for a luxury car. Naturally aspirated and tuned they both make around 160-170 rwkW
If you are really keen on the VH45 leave the standard camshafts as they are excellent, a couple of GT 28-76 turbo's or similar to maximize torque, GT 30/82R's or similar if chasing big figures at the expense of some down low grunt. Manifolds will all have to be custom due to the chassis and so on.
Cheers

Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
Yes the tb48 is quite a angry monster indeed! unfortunatly in some cases no
good for application ie cams regulations in offroad racing limit of 6l NA and
3.6 Forced , so tb48 out there, and also weight factors might come into
play! If not yes the tb48 is prob a great option! easy hp and at low rpm
i have built one of these that made 500rwhp @ 4250 Rpm and@ only 12psi of
boost so yes these things can do it quite easy!

Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
Hi All, Thank you for all your replies. I actually got referred to this site from a few people who said that there are some very talented people on here know know their Nissan V8's. My options are still open so i might look into the 4.8. Does anyone know if the engine diameter is bigger? I am low on space but know that the vh45 just fits but happy to explore other options.
I saw Nizpro and they certainly know their VH motors as they run a few insane twin turbo ones but they charge huge sums of money from what I have been told. I might stop by and see hello and see what kind of service I get.
Thanks once again guys

Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
What does the engine have to go into?
Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
The VH45 is quite wide, the TB48 very tall. I'd also like to know what it's going into, I'd assumed a Nissan Patrol.

Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
I ran a VH45 once and found that at the time only 4 people had used the VH in a 4x4. I found one guy in brissy that had one twin turbo'ed on straight gas @ 550 hp in a GQ wagon. I was going to turbo mine too but was braking to much with the factory power (208kw, 410nm). From my experiance I needed to run the headers to the front and custom the angle so that a turbo flange would be just under the tapet covers, than the turbo, than back under the motor. Old mate used twin t28's off memory but I was planning on a single sd33 turbo and a t28 to give me more down low power. I also found that the standard computer will run this but would not allow high boost >16 psi, but I was only betting on 8psi fulltime and whind to 14 psi on standard head gaskets. But as above had drive train issues to deal with. I would like another Vh45 or two too replace the TB45 mirotech LT10 I have at presant as I think the VH45 are great.

Thank you again for your replies. I am putting it into an LX Torana.
I have seen a VH45 in a LC torana so it will go into my LX ok I believe.

Re: VH45det (Nissan v8) - seeking experienced advice for big
Why not go with a VQ40DE out of a D40 Navara, or a VQ35DE/HR from a 350Z. You could run a nissan 6-speed behind it too.
Wanted:

LXJET, I see your from the torana forum? I recall seeing someone on that site had one. I could be wrong??

Seriously, if you want BIG horsepower,
LS2.
LS2.
LS2.
LS2!
The Jap stuff is cheap. But LS2s can be had really cheap now, you are bound to be able to find a stout one for cheap!
I would seriously forget the Nissan or Toyota V8s and go LS2.

A mate of mine put a twin turbo VH45 into a S14 200SX.
It is a bitch of a job and he swears he will never do it again.
Makes 700Hp at the wheels though and crazy torque.
I was going to fit the same to my GU but fitting it was a nightmare so I gave up.

How fast do you want to go.. We acheived the first ever sub 10 second pass in a VL on 98 octane fuel a month or so ago. I do the tuning for another workshop who ran 9.98 at 137 mph. Street Ets etc.
