GQ wagon ute chop to styleside ute

Post by Xplode »

hey guys

doing research wanna buy a gq wagon and chop the top off weld the side doors closed to have a styleside type of gq. thinking of bringing rear doors up to a pillar, welding them together and re attaching to give a singlecab/spacecab look. just wondering has anyone done something simmilar or know where i could get some photo's of the build up. also giving thought to the need of bracing the rear of the body in anyway and the need to support the a pillar/rear of cab for rego and safety.

any help in the way of getting my project on the go would be fantastic in the research stage so all ideas are helpful.

thanks again

When you cut the roof off. Cut the rear pillar at window level. Then weld it behind the B pillar. You can put it back as far as you like. This will give you an extra cab look. And nice rounded edges.

Only ever seen 1 Styleside extra cab
It was an overseas jobie
Ill checkout the one purplebus mentions and see what it looks like

Best bet would be to consult an engineer in your state
(priceless suggestion)
Theres alotta work in them , alot more than the wagon to ute chops

none taken. this is a track/race car only. he probably went no glass/small glass as it is one of the go fast forward only trucks.
looks good in real life but i woulve put 2 small windows in, but everyone likes something different.

you should see the look when i tell people " no mate ,I painted it purple" when they ask if a girl owned my purplebus before me.
