I don't think you have to remove the tank to remove the filler. the filler looks to be accessable from the rear wheel arch and inside panel. The pipe from the filler to main tank should be accessable enough without dropping the tank - it is on the diesel ones anyway.

Gday Mate,

I had a leak from the passenger side main tank for ages (petrol 80). I replaced all the lines/fillers etc that i could get to and eventually had to bite the bullet and drop the tank- mongrel of a job. It turned out to be a small crack in a crease at the front of the tank right at the top where there was a guard and not much space. Couldn't find anyone who would repair it, couldnt find a decent second hand one and couldnt afford one from toyota (and didnt really want to have the same issue again in a few years). The wreckers I spoke to said they had seen more than a few like that as well.

I finally bought an aftermarket tank from a 4wd shop (cant remember brand of tank) that comes in at 145 litres and problem solved- been good for couple of years now and heaps of range. I didnt fit it though, paid the shop boys to do it- I fitted an aftermarket tank in the back and that nearly killed me doing it in the driveway. Downside is it costs a small mortgage to fill up now.

Dropping the tank may be a last resort for you if you cant track it down though.

cheers Macca.
