ceramic exhaust turbine?

ive got a turbo that im wanting to put on my td42 but it has a ceramic wheel on the exhaust side, its a genuine nissan turbo wich i thought was a t3 but i have been told different, but it has a t3 flange, and the intake side wheel is alluminium, can anyone help me with this? is it dangerous to have a ceramic exaust wheel?

i think the turbo is actually a nissan rb25 turbo

Any part numbers or even a picture. Compressor wheels are generally aluminium. T3 means nothing about a turbo except for the mounting flange pattern.

I run a turbo off an VG30DET and it has a ceramic turbine wheel. The only things you have to look out for is damage to the fins (they're rediculously fragile), and don't put your boost over roughly 10-12psi as the wheels tend to disintegrate.

I think kiwibacon has a theory that ceramic turbine wheels aren't any more fragile than the "normal" ones when in the turbocharger... I think he says its the EGT that kills them... no doubt he will chime in... he won't be able to resist this thread

most standard nissan turbo's are ceramic exhaust wheel.
they are fine for normal use, just dont push more then 12/13 psi through them. anoy more then that often see's the exhaust wheel lodged in your muffler...

aww k i have also been told its too small? if i was to buy a garret what would be most suited to my td42 im gonna run a top mount cooler and custom 3inchdump and exhaust and i have a t3 manifold

You'd need to post up the specs of the turbo you currently have for us to say if its too small or not. There's been people running turbo's from RB25's, RB30, VG30 etc. so it might still be suitable. It depends on how far you want to go with power. If you're looking at going over 100rwkw, i'd definately be looking at a properly suited turbo (like a disco potato or similar).

I had both on a nissan and i found the ceramic spooled up a bit quicker but as stated above, if you turn up the boost they tend to shit themselves. I ended up with metal because i was running up to 18.

generally a ball bearing turbo will spool faster then a bush bearing turbo, of the same size.
there is many factors that will change turbo spool (lag). the main of which is the size of the exhaust housing on the turbo.
as said, u need to post up more detailed specs of the turbo u have, so we can give u an idea of how it will preform. Will also depend on what sort of end result you are chasing, top end power vs instant response.

i can vouch for ceramic wheels in mufflers, did a couple on one of my old cars, cheap disposable rb20 turbos, if you wanna push it i would suggest not running hte ceramic wheel
