Factory coil rear Hilux ???

Post by Mr DJ »

One for the Hilux guru's out there ...

I am trying to help someone out with what their Hilux is as I have not seen one like this before.
The VIN # on the ID plate and the chassis # match and don't look to have been tampered with.
Had a build date of May 97 and LN106 with a 3L & G52 from factory (complianced by Toyota Australia) but looks to have a factory 5 link coil rear ??????
Has a mod plate for Surf 2LTE, auto trans and change to 2 seater.

Did Toyota Australia ever sell a LN106 with IFS and coil rear ?
What is the definition of IV3 (Incomplete vehicle) - is it a Cab Chassis (no tray)?

That's what I origonaly thought, but the factory ID plate and the number stamped in the chassis match.
No mention of chassis mod or suspension change on mod plate.
Only LA3 (Turbo), LK1 (seating) and LB1 (trans).
Plus the on line EPC recognises the vin # and shows it as having a coil rear.
Of course the EPC could be wrong tho.

Looks like a 4runner interior.
I vote cab swap.

I'd take a closer look at the 5 link, may have been swapped in, or a hilux/runner chassis joined at the hips.

That toyota ID plate has been added to that cab. They are not factory rivets.

It was also a factory 3L not 2LT. I would say its a cab swap onto a surf chassie and someone has cut and shut the chassie number for ease of rego.

Yep the whole truck looks dodgy, right down to the fact the drive way is no way as steep as the inclinometer reads. :D

didnt think that the 106 was still around in 97?
woudnt it be a later model?
seen a 93 model sr5 with IFS but not coil rear.
maybe cut and shut surf rear?
