School me on Hard lines - prw steer, fuel, brakes, etc.
Have to make new 10mm power steering hard lines etc. and want to know what type of steel pipe to use and where to get it, good/bad benders and any tips on flaring tools for single and double flares.
BTW, have trolled through the "search" feature and been in the OL basement (Bibles) searching through the archives and have not found much except tons of broken parts laying around lol.
Do these little benders work ok ??

Is this much good as a flaring tool ??

make sure you use bundy tube - its like a rolled sheet of paper rather than a flat rolled into a o with a seam

if you dont already have the tools, it may be cheaper and easier to have them made by a pro.

Re: School me on Hard lines - prw steer, fuel, brakes, etc.
Thanks guys, have been told it's a bit pricy to have them made so looking into how to do it myself.
From those who have had it done, what sort of $$'s to get them done by a mobile guy ?

Re: School me on Hard lines - prw steer, fuel, brakes, etc.
I did all mine, used a bender like that and a double flaring tool.
Took some time to get right but in the end only cost me about $200 to redo the whole car.

Might suck to get fittings for, but I was wondering about doing my own out of 1/2 inch copper, pretty common, can handle decent pressure, fairly cheap.Dougster wrote:Have to make new 10mm power steering hard lines etc. and want to know what type of steel pipe to use and where to get it, good/bad benders and any tips on flaring tools for single and double flares.

Dunno about fittuings to go back to your pump and box, but cant see it being a big deal??
Copper, good for cooling too, could paint it black if you were stressed about it.
hands and mums dont count!!!

That is illegal. Fine for the ends where flex is needed but you cant run flexy brake or fuel lines for the length of the car.

Watch out when using copper, it is brittle and isnt any good for things that may have constant movement or vibration.
You can use standard fittings, same as with steel hoses
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
Re: School me on Hard lines - prw steer, fuel, brakes, etc.
Thanks guys.
Yea thought about copper but told similar thing about it being bad with vibrations.
Can reuse the connections from origonal hard lines that I have.
Was given a good idea ... use most of origonal hard line and have high pressure hose properly fitted to the section/s of high pressure line I need to extend it to fit around stuff.
Should work and save time & $$$'s. Worst case is then need to make complete new lines up which I was considering doing anyway.
