Re: gq short shift
If you took the time to use the search function yourself instead of having a whinge, you'd find there are several other threads covering short shift upgrades in detail for TD/TB five speed boxes.hiy6o wrote:WOW there is a heap of info on that link glad you took the time to drag it out
Just incase you can't find the search function, here's a handy link for you:

Re: gq short shift
Just thought that if you are going to get on someone and give them the old "have ya used the search engine fool" you should make sure the link you put up actually has some useful content , not just the same title.
Oh yeah , thanks for the search link I have been looking for that . Saved it in my favorites.

Re: gq short shift
ok so i searched.. out of all the posts i found that you can get them from unlimited industries.. but no one has really commented on what its like which i think is what this guy wants. so before you all go and try to be the first to flame him go and do your own research because at the end of the day it just makes you look bad. i would really like to know more about these. if anyone can give any information

Re: gq short shift
The short shifter that Unlimited Industries sells are the best on the market. They are a complete unit. Unbolt yours and bolt this on. I have run one on my truck for the last 3 years. I also noticed that Dave Cameron has one fitted to his supercharged V8 truck which competed in this years OBC. More than happy to answer any questions.

Re: gq short shift
To be honest, i don't think there's much choice for any other units, unless you want build your own.
- Australian made
- Fully rebuildable/repairable
- 50% shorter action
- Direct bolt in replacement.
Given that there are no bad reviews around, i'd suggest that means that there aren't any.

ok.. i've seen a few pictures but how does it actually work. what is it like to drive with? is it worth it? and how does the gearbox/synchros cope?

Re: gq short shift
Sandy at Aus 4wd makes them too fair bit cheaper as well.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

The gearstick moves less.. it changes gears faster and like any changing of gears faster its going to be harder on your gearbox.
It works by changing the spot that the stick pivots on so it applies a different ratio of movement therefore requiring less effort from your flabby arm.
Worth it? Probably not, unless your the stig.. but im pretty sure he changes gears with his mind.
Re: gq short shift
Faster shifting wears out synchros quicker. I found that out with one of my previous g/boxs.

Re: gq short shift
Shortened my shifter with a 2 inch body lift, still crunches second when dragging off geminis tho
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.
Re: gq short shift
No the top of your shifter is just 2inchs closure to the floor. It still has the same throw.BadMav wrote:Shortened my shifter with a 2 inch body lift, still crunches second when dragging off geminis tho
A short shift changes the pivot point at which it moves. Thus having a shorter throw.

I was on holidays and probably still hung over or was being nagged. If it helps I did the same thing.BadMav wrote:turps, I'll try to make the sarcasm a little more obvious next time.turps wrote:No the top of your shifter is just 2inchs closure to the floor.
