Hi guys,

7M-GE conversion is now cancelled due to acquisition of a 1JZ-GTE :armsup:

My question is - Can I mate my gear driven case (G52) onto an A340F auto box?
Or even better can I get hold of one easily enough that already has one attached?

I'd prefer to go auto with this conversion as the 2wd & 4wd R series boxes have different input shafts due to push / pull clutch arrangements & I don't want to have to worry about dramas mating my lovely 1J to a suitable box..

Alternatively, is there an adaptor / existing toyota part which would mate my gear driven case to a 2wd A340E perhaps?

Any help appreciated guys ;)

check out the gear drive adaptors at:

they have an adaptor from chain drive case (i think behind auto)
to gear drive from most Earlier G52. some later had chain drive transfer also

Now doing general fab work and painting
trays, trailers, engine swaps on request, some tube work, silo section sliders, rust repairs, ute chops etc

i have an r series box in my truck with 2jz used the dellow bellhousing its set for the 160mm input shaft (4x4 style)
runs a standard toyota push clutch instead if the 2wd pull clutch from the supra

Locktup's tranfer case adaptor is pretty pricey :?
Thrashlux, what is a bellhousing from dellows worth roughly? When you say 'standalone' loom, can you please elaborate a little on how it works? The 1J will be going into my 1st gen 4Runner so there's bugger all wiring in it to begin with!

Also, would it be simpler (read cheaper) to just get a surf box with existing t/fer case & get a 1J bellhousing, get the (electric?) t/fer case working rather than adapting my gear driven t/fer? What would getting the chain driven case working entail?

Thanks again guys, just working out my best approach to minimise cost without sacrificing quality!! I'm capable of doing pretty much all the work but I gotta keep costs down due to my new house, kids etc!!

Have not seen it myself, tho I believe putting a gear drive transfer behind an auto has been done using the front section of the trasfer case fron a Surf auto (A343F).
91' Hilux Surf with the usual mods & a few different ones ....

stand alone loom means i get the loom from the 1jz supra or soarer
modify it so that it has its own fuse box with only a couple of wires to connect
all the other connections to run the engine including all the relays and stuff are already connected inside this loom
i have done literally hundreds of these looms for different people over time
this job is normally beyond what most handy guys can do
which computer do you have is it the early one with small grey plugs with 2 rows of pins or the later model one with larger plugs with multiple rows of pins?

i would go manual as first preference
if i was not going to do that then use the auto from the 1j its matched to the engine and the engine ecu runs it
i would not recommend using a different auto as it WILL lead to problems
you should be able to do this by swaping parts from the back end of a surf auto ie case and maybe out put shaft
chain drive transfers have a lower set of low range gears which is a bonus
you can run the electric actuator for the 4x4 if you like you just need a reversable switch and a couple of relays to connect to the limit switches to stop the motor driving the linkage off the end of travel
in saying all that 97 on luxes have a mechanical shifted chain drive transfer
you should be able to make a Frankenstein box from all second hand toyota parts that is 1jz auto chain drive transfer with manual shift

Thanks for that Thrashlux, you've pretty much covered all I needed to know there!
By the sound of what you're saying there, I reckon I'd be better off chasing up an R box and getting a dellows bellhousing. I'd prefer to keep it manual but thought it may have been easier to run the Auto.

I havent got an ECU yet as the motor didn't come with one but I do have the uncut loom (PM sent re standalone) however I'm not home until the 8th of sept so I don't know what ECU it had..
