Gen 2 LWB to Gen 1 SWB - Rear Axle/Diff Assembly

Post by Saffa-JT »

Hi,

I am transferring the rear axle/diff/suspension from a early Gen2 LWB v6 3.0 into my Gen 1 SWB.
I have checked the ratios and they are the same, just a bigger diff and has the Factory airlocker installed.
I just wanted to know if I will need to get the propshaft shortened?
Hopefully somebody out there has also done this conversion.

Cheers
JT

Justice over on 4x4wire.com forum and also on http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/s ... hp?t=25074 has done this.

Fitted up a 96 LWB rear assembly with factory air locker and discs. From what I remember it is straight bolt in. The only real change is the rear track will be 1.5 inch's wider, again from memory of what I read.

He is in the USA but seems like a real helpful guy so send him a message and I am sure he could answer any specifics you might have.

This is his complete build up http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat. ... art=1&vc=1
