Re: nissan conversion
Yeah , but they are kinda using it for driving around....
Re: nissan conversion
Yep. Need a 4.2 box. Did mine 2 years ago. 4.2 motor will sooner or later tear a 2.8 box to pieces.
You will also need to rework the engine mounts a little. The drivers side mount will be destroyed every month if you don't rework the mounting point. Passenger side is OK though. Tail shafts will need redoing because of the 4.2 box too. Rear one becomes shorter and front gets longer due to the transfer case sitting further back. Gearbox mounts do line up OK though. Diffs are geared down. You will either need to change the ratios or use 35" tyres like I did to get the speedo and power curve back in spec.
Let me know how you go.

The 4.2 wont fit a 2.8 box - end of storyMuddyTroll wrote:Yep. Need a 4.2 box. Did mine 2 years ago. 4.2 motor will sooner or later tear a 2.8 box to pieces.

Tailshafts - just buy the 4.2 tailshafts and rear diff flange, original rear diff flange you remove will fit the front - cheap and easy. The 2.8 ones are small and crappy.
You can swap the 4.6 diffs in yours for 4.1's out of a 4.2D to fix the gearing instead of 35's if you wish. You can also run 33's your original diffs and put in the Marks4wd overdrive 5th gear
Work off the passenger mount for the correct position as its the same for the 4.2. I have a drawing for a plate to fix the drivers side - will see if I can find it
Re: nissan conversion

awesome work helping out a stranger. you dont wanna run for PM do you..?
gotta be better than the others.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..
Re: nissan conversion
Nice work clanky.
I welded up a new engine mount to suit. Reinforced the hell out of it and it works well and hasn't let me down yet. Doing up a plate like yours never really entered my mind. Truly brilliant idea and simple too.
I take my hat off to you. Well done.
