Hey all, my cousin has just bought a 01 SR5 hilux. We need some advice regarding tyres and suspension.
Its got factory suspension, and about 100k on the odo. and has SR5 15" rims.
He plans on doing only mild 4x4 work, and mainly using it for camping and dirt roads etc.
Plans so far are 31" all-terrains or soft-core muddies. I fitted my spare set of rims and tyres which are 31" AT's on patrol offset 15x7" sunnies. They rub on the front guards only (which we will remove or trim). Is there any other problems we may encounter with 31's?
He also wants (and needs) a small suspension lift. I have a pretty good idea on how to set up a coil suspension kit, but with IFS and torsion bars im lost.
Can the torsion bars be wound up for some extra height, if so, how much?
With the rears, would some extended shackles do the job?
It would be new shocks all round too.
Hes not scared to spend a few $$ but just looking into the cheaper options first.
Hope someone has some advice to offer, thanks in advance

Re: Hilux IFS questions
2" body lift and 33x10.5's will only rub at full lock when the front or back is tucked into the guards. I understand that he doesn't want to go too crazy, but I don't see 33's as too crazy. the extra clearance will come in handy too.

im guessing with 33s that you need gearing. and then there are legal issues...
Is a body lift pretty straight forward on this model hilux?

Re: Hilux IFS questions
I have the same lux and run 32"bighorn mud tyres, mine are on a -25 offset to stop scrubbing.
To lift the front you can wind the torsion bars up about 40mm from stock is about the limit just keep in mind the angle of the cvs will be increased,to overcome this i installed a 1"front diff drop. The tyres normally rub on the front mudgaurds so best to remove them, might need a slight trim of the seam on the inner gaurds. The rear end just needs a new set of 2" raised springs and of course new shocks all round.

Re: Hilux IFS questions
Very simple 45min job.
I purchased my kit from 4 Crawler offroad in the USA

You will need the kit with the diff drop and swaybar blocks costs USD $45 plus $10 freight
