what engine/gearbox combinations would be more practical for a daily driven LN106?

Best daily driven engine/gearbox combination into LN106

Post by 83zook »

My 3L hasn't been started in close to 18 months, started fine then died.. Now makes strange noise on cranking with irregular combustion noise?
So i've got a few options.. It will be a daily driven 4wd, that will be double locked with at least 33's, set up for harder terrain, but also be able to take to say the cape? keen on personal opinions and personal setups
Cheers Mitch

Any financial constraints?

3RZ with a G52 is going to be a whole lot cheaper than the 1UZ.

Money no object, 1KZ-TE, R150F, Adaptor Plate and the stock gear drive transfer with 4.7 gears.

Cost me $12K to do all up (with lockers, winch and a full chassis up rebuild) but it transformed the old LN106 into an absolute weapon. Jap spec 1KZ-TE's get over 70kw@ wheels with stock ECU and a 3" Exhaust and dump pipe too!

Depends if you want to stay diesel or go unleaded.

yer i've thought about the 1kz but i checked out your build and it looks like a lot more work, it honestly doesn't worry me which way i go but the dearest part about doing the 3rz is the engine. I've got a budget of 10k to get it going and i want f + r air lockers and 4.7's at a minimum, so the more i save the better tyre's i can get and some longs for the front etc
