Just brought a HJ75
hi everyone,
i am new to this forum, i have just brought a 87 HJ75 ute, and i dont know much about the landcruisers.
I am having a hard time finding out what parts are interchangerble from other models.
when i look for suspention kits it will only say for HZJ 72,73,74 and i dont know if it will fit mine and also body penals as well.
any help would be great thanks.

Re: Just brought a HJ75
There will be heaps available for HJ75 - try Superior Engineering as an example. There should be heaps more kits for HJ75 models than the others. Note the 70, 71, 73, 74 have the same front springs as an HJ75 but they have 60 series rear springs.
Re: Just brought a HJ75

also it has a comp style try on it that i am looking to swap for a stock alloy one with cash my way or just sell it. if anyone is interested let me know

Re: Just brought a HJ75
I have an alloy one that I'm looking at getting rid of. Where are you located?
Re: Just brought a HJ75
i am in brisbane 4124, you after a comp tray? or looking to just sell your alloy tray?
Re: Just brought a HJ75
Body panels off FJ70/*J73/*J75 should all be interchangeable up till 1997 when the 78/79 was introduced, but keep in mind the troopys/hardtops have different doors and windscreens to the utes/ragtops/FRP-tops. Most of the mechanicals are interchangeable apart from the front axle assembly which both shrunk (diff) and grew (CV's/knuckles) at the same time, around 1990? Engines changed from 2H to 1HZ around 1989. As stated earlier short wheelbase models use different rear springs.
RJ and LJ models (swb, coil sprung) were different again but i believe body panels from the windscreen are interchangeable.

About the only difference in front lower guards is the later ones had indicators in them.
P.S I am after a driver side lower guard if anyone has one !

Re: Just brought a HJ75
The front grill and indicators
85-89 metal grill
90-94 plastic grill says Toyota on it
95-99 plastic grill has T on grill
these are interchangable if you want a more updated look on your 75
99-05 have plastic grill and bigger indicators you can put this whole combo on your 75 for the latest fitting grill
the front panels and bonnets are same bar the later bonnets have different window squirter holes but no biggi.
The doors on the hard top shortys, troopys and post aug 99 ute are all same , the doors on the middys and 85-aug99 utes are same . All interior bits from 85-05 are interchangable bar seats have different bases between utes troopys and middys

Re: Just brought a HJ75
if you have the 2 h motor (or saying hj so you should) but in case your mixed up and have the petty i will post any way.
if you have the 2h diesel, i would be pulling the oil relief valve cap out, and seeing if it has had the poppet changed, as the standard one is too small and is used to often and mills into the block, which allows it to jam and then your filter will burst, supposedly common problem (common enough that they sell longer bodied poppet's)
acces is from behind the airconditioner pump on the bottom of the drivers side of the motor, its not easy, unless you dont have air con then it would be simple. to not remove the aircon pump, or steering components i had to go buy a cheep spanner and cut it down, once i did that it wasnt to hard, but getting the poppet out is also not easy, i did it the bush mechanic way (got every one to stand back, put a few towels in the area to catch the poppet, turned the car over, gave it a quick stab, and turned it back off)

Re: Just brought a HJ75
yeah i have heard about that problem, i am a bit lost tho? mine is the diesel 2h and it dont have air con. i will get on to this problem asap where can i find more info on how to do it?
Re: Just brought a HJ75
if you dont have aircon your sweet, you will see the cap head right at the bottom of the drivers side of the motor, will be near the pulleys, should(from memory) be a 19 or 21 mm, just remove it, if you see a spring thats about an inch and a half long, thats the right hole, the pice on the other end of the spring is the poppet.
the onfo i wrote in my other post, is pretty much exactly what i done, there isnt that much info i have seen on it(as its about a 5 min job) if you dont have aircon, mine included a trip to super cheep to buy a spanner to cut down, but you should be able to use a socket if you dont have aircon.

x2 you dont want to find out its an issue when it leaves 5L of oil all over your road out the front when it blows the oil filter outWambat wrote:if you have the 2 h motor (or saying hj so you should) but in case your mixed up and have the petty i will post any way.

Re: Just brought a HJ75
try 10l of oil. its so fucking messy its not funny,
i wasnt ready for it first time, (well actual i was) i had gotten oil from work, and a filter, and had them ready to go and it blew so i just changed it, assuming that the fillter was blocked up(had no ida how long it had been on the car as i had only jsut bought it)
did it 4 more times in 5000 ks. so its nice and clean on the inside now. had 5 oil changes in 5000 ks. fixed the problem in around november last year, havent had an issue since
