80 series and QLD transport inspector

Gday guys. I had a transport guy looking at my truck today while it was parked at a mates workshop. I didnt think anything of it. But he took a picture of my truck as I was driving off.

Ive tried many times (transport department/engineer/4x4 shops) before to find out whats legal and whats not and noone can ever tell me.

I have a dobbinson 4" lift, 35" mud tyres, and superflex front arms??

Call QLD Transport, record your conversation and keep the recording on you at all times. Not that it would help as 35's are a no-no in QLD.

You shouldn't need anyone to "tell you" there are vehicle modification guidelines which tell you to what extent you can make modifications. As the registered owner its your responsibility to ensure your registered vehicles calls within those guidelines.

Apart from the superflex arms. It was all there when I purchased it. I have been told by queensland transport 4" total lift is ok. But then contradicted by someone else at a later date.

Ok here is what I have just been told...

You are allowed 1/3 raised/rebound coil lift height
2", 50mm body lift
15mm bigger than standard tyre size (height)
1.5 times wider than standard rim width

Only problem, even toyota themselves have no idea what the standard measurement from spring perch the bumpstops are when new!!!!

Superior arms that have been engineered/plated and deemed safe in the past. Are still deemed illegal no matter what from transport department.

Thoughts???

i would say start shopping for a set of 33's and a set of standard arms as if the arms did not come with a piece of paper saying they are approved then there not. and if they ask how much lift it has just say 2 inch

All good. Got the stock arms, got 32's, just need some stock coils. That or I will just de'register it and re'register it and they can get notted.

mate that trick dosnt work any more. it gives you six months and they will send you a letter to take it over the pits . well thats whats happend to the people that i know that did it

Find an engineer that will pass it. Then if transport picks on you go straight to your mp. I've only read about qld and it's laws, and the experiences of others, but things just don't add up. It's time someone sorted it out.

6 month pit inspections are standard in NSW for heavy vehicles. Honestly if that's all you have to go through to run a modified 4wd on the roads i'd be happy with that.

There is nothing to sort out. The modification guidlines are there, for all to read, and have had little change in the past 5 years.

The problem comes when the owner of said vehicle doesn't know what the stock standard suspension measurements are (I don't know mine either!).

And it is up to the person who modify's the vehicle to ensure it complies, and be able to prove it. Not Qld transport.

thats right, ive been over the pits 4 times and i had to prove that the suspension was only 2'' in my lux. he said lucky it was still new and had part numbers on it or id have to replace them anyway. every thing from snake and superior ect is illegal unless the parts come with an adr approval number. when i went in he went on the snake and superior websites and it states in the disclaimer that all parts sold are for offroad use only, so off it ill came.
i took it off the road last time and reregisterad it. that was more than 6 mths ago and havent heard anything back.
