td42 motor into tb42

Post by yota eater »

hi blokes i currently have an 89 TD42 wagon its pretty stock and fairly rough and i just bought my mates GQ its a 89 petrol 4.2 for the reason to put all his gear onto my car as it has all suspension arb lockers tyres uhf etc etc pretty much absolutely everything i want except a winch but i have been thinking about putting my TD42 into it because it is so neat and complete, it is very straight and the interior is good.. has any one done the conversion before? was it a hard job? expensive? any info would be a good help

From the small amount i know is that you will need to use your TD42 gearbox as well, as the bell housing is slightly different. Also look to see if you use the same engine mounts as the petrol (early ones) were different to the diesel ones (I owned an 88 TB42 now 92 TD42). Not sure what may need to be changed there. Mate of mine is literally doin it now so will learn as i go along too lol, just a couple of things I'Ve picked up. Wiring can be a bear but have someone in the know and you'll be sweet

Did it myself a couple of years ago.
If you've got 2 complete cars you're laughing! Swap both looms over completely (the engine and interior loom is one piece)
The bellhousing unbolts from the gearbox and swaps over.
Honey i cut the car in half!
