GU LS1 Exhaust Question

Post by [WANAPLAY] »

Hi All,

I've got a GU with an LS1 that i'm taking over the pits for WA rego, I took the lift out to get it passed over here and now the exhaust hits on the front tailshaft.

I've pulled the shaft out at the moment, but at stock height there is very little to no room for the 2.5'' pipe off the marks adaptors 4 into 1 manifolds going between the starter and gearbox etc heading backwards on the drivers side...

Ive seen a couple of guys run the right hand side forward in front of the sump hugging tight then going round and picking up the left hand side before heading backwards, anyone see any drams with me doing this? clearance must be tight with the front diff, but then it seems to be more room there than down the RHS at stock height...

Some other recommend to go with stock VE manifolds also, then run in front of sump..??

Anybody got any thoughts or pictures of thiers they can send through? i've searched it to death and not come up with a hell of alot.

Thanks in advance - Ryan.

I had the same problem with the exhaust hitting the
Drive shaft but on a BBC with standard Manifolds .
After having two exhaust shops failing to
Fix the problem . I removed the coil springs
So it was sitting on the bump stops .
Than put the car up on stands and made it my
Self. Problem solved

Hi Ryan
VE manifolds won't fit without major modifications to them.
I just made 3.5" single exhaust for a 6L into a GQ, using marks extractors and a dellow bell housing with no body lift. I modified the drivers side extractor by shortening and changing the angle of the 4 into 1 collector and running the 2.5" primary pipe tightly underneath the gearbox where it meets the bellhousing.

I have also run others closer to the sump, where it meets the bell housing but that was with modified VE manifolds. ( These manifolds flow as good as many extractors. Only a few K/W difference between them)

You could also try running the pipe close to the floor on the drivers side and run it over to the passengers side at the rear of the transfer case. You would have to use heat wrap where the pipe is close to the floor though.

I always remove the front coil springs and sit the diff on the bump stops when installing these engines so I can see exactly how much room I have for the exhaust and sump.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply's guys,

Will have another look at it this weekend and see what I can nut out, springs out sounds like a good idea, easy to do to.

Will grab a couple of tight donuts to cut n weld the bends.

You guys wouldnt have any pictures at all? If not thats fine, should be able to sort it.

Thanks again Ryan.
