G'Day All,
I need a starter lockout installed so the other electrics work but starter itself does not get power. What I would really like is a circuit diagram and engine layout but the auto shops all say there is no Diesel V8 manual available yet. If anyone can help with a detailed enough description of how to find the heavy direct battery feed to starter in a PC I would be really pleased. A photo would be even better.

Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
starter id under the intake manifold up top in the middle of the valley. the same as a 1uz. so check that wiring loom diagram out and see if there are similarities.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
Thankyou, that helps a great deal, I guess all the filter stuff at the top is reason I was not able to see it in the valley. Wotza 1uz? I am not into things enough to recognise this. Is the wire diagram somewhere on line or do I buy a manual for a 1uz whatever that is. The car before this one was a much simpler Toyota 1998 PC with an inline 6 diesel. My other toy is a 1967 E-Type, much simpler machine.

Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
why not just use the wiring from the starter relay, that would be easy to find.
most toyota manuals wont give up a location that easy( i ve spent days looking on them for new car stuff )

1uzed and no home for it
Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
G'Day, mine sites require the lockout to be on the main high current feed to the solenoid/starter so....... interrupting the low current wire from start switch that controls the engagement of the solenoid leaves a possible hot path to starter itself. Basically if car is to be "worked on" by anyone on site they have to be able to put their personal "padlock" on it to prevent starting but still have all other electrics working. Occ Health and Safety requires it set so no one else can start/move a car with a lockout in place either accidentally or on purpose while another person is maybe underneath it etc. Hence my quest for that particular wire, now I am certain of starter location I am more likely to locate the right wire. Will be a couple of days before I can get at it again. Yes!! the reason I am here is that the local "Stealer" will not provide the info I want, "bring it in and we will do the job for $$$$". A pity a Haynes or other after market manual is not available.

Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
Wouldnt the big fat wire from the positive terminal be a good place to lock it out? I recall there being a fairly obvious feed to the starter on our work V8 TD utes.

Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
Should be basically 2 large cables, one to alternator and one to starter. But yeah, I guess they are a busy looking engine with junk everywhere.
hands and mums dont count!!!
Re: Toyota V8 Diesel Starter motor location
The 1uzfe is a Toyota Petrol 4L v8. Starter is right in the middle. Under the intake manifold/between galleries. What a PITA!
