Hilux 99 2.7 towing?

Post by Kingston_99 »

hey people.

i have a slightly modded lux, first off its an hilux 99 4X4 with the 2.7 (3RZ-FE). it has been lifted 2 inches and 32 bighorns and a few other bits, so theres is a fair bit of weight and drag allready.

i will be useing the lux to tow my SS ute to drags and powercruise events etc etc. i just want to know if this car will be any good for towing wise? or should i flog it off and get something better?

thanks kingy

I'd keep it, but swap out the diff gears to compensate for the bigger tyres. The 2.7 goes alright with a load, won't blow you away on the hills though. Funny thing is you're probably towing the better tow car.

Falcon wagon/sedan. Would be a laugh for the ford fan boys anyway.

Isn't there a holden ute with a better towing capacity than that? Or are they all bogan irs beer carriers?

Also think about Range Rovers, they are hopeless cars, but damn they are cheap! Land Rover Disco, cheap as.

They are all slow, but can often tow 3500kgs and are cheap to buy, dunno about running costs etc, but I imagine they are a bit steep. But if its for towing only it would be okay.

A petrol Prado would not be to expensive and can tow 2.5k. Could also look at Pajero

You can tell this is the Toyota part of the forum, nobody's suggested a GQ Patrol. Cheap, plentiful, can tow more than you need and if it breaks it's no big loss. You can just leave it on the side of the road and hope someone throws a match at it.

best bet would be to sell the dunnydore just use the hilux and act dumb when you get caught. what you really need to do is take the ss on the trailer and get it weighed, then consider that weight and look at what can legally tow it there is no point all of us suggesting cars if what you are towing turns out to be heavy and an 80 for example can't tow it. not saying this is the case, but you need to make an educated decision on this
