wheel wobble in HJ75 Ute
My cruiser gets a really bad front end wheel wobble sometimes usually between 60 and 80 kph that shakes the whole car.
The car has 2-3 inch spring lift, 2" shackel lift and runs 33x12.5R15 cooper STT tyres.
I never had a problem with this set up and have driven up the cape several times.
It only started happening after I hit a pot hole on a city street. It happened as soon as I hit the pothole and then every now and then since.
That was 2 months ago.
To try to remedy this I have:
Rotated tyres front to back. No improvement
Got tyres balanced by tyre shop who said they were out a bit . No improvement
Fitted tough dog RTC steering dampener.
Removed 2 extended shackles and put normal ones in.
Tried running different tyre pressures
Im at whits end.
Has any one else had this problem

Have you looked at your wheel bearings/swivel hub bearings or steering linkages? They would be the next things to look at after wheel balancing.

I took the tyres off and had a good feel for movement but I plan on putting a whole swivel hub kit through next weekend and doing bearings and cvs

Very hard to check for freeplay with the tyres off. Put the wheels back on and with the wheel jacked up grab the tyre at 12 o clock and 6 o clock and try and rock the tyre back and forth alternately (pushing in at the top, pulling out at the bottom, then switching direction of push/pull). If you feel freeplay then you have wheel bearing issues. Do the same at 3 and 9 o clock, if you feel freeplay you have movement in the steering. You might need a second person to locate the part that has freeplay once you determine there is an issue.

I had the exact problem with my 75, did all the same things......The only other thing i did also was replace the tie rods...
I took the RTC damper off and it was good as gold......I know it should not make a difference, but it solved all my issues...

Bent housing? King pins or wheel bearing, tie rod ends and spring bushes will all cause a wobble, also take the rtc dampner off, all they do is mask small issues as they develop
and put undue strain on the steer box

Mate, had this problem many times before.
King pins and bearing for play, and CASTOR ANGLE. I think you will find the play is what starts it and your castor angle is what turns it into a whole car wobble. Your castor has changes as the springs start to sag. Your diff needs to be rotted forward. Try loosening of your U-bolts at your front diff/springs. Then try just putting a 5mm peace of steel at the cab side of the diff while keeping your front part tight to the leaf springs. Should fix it. If not try 10mm of steel.

Replaced the springs (broken and rusted) in my drag link fixed mine after the same problems.

Assuming your steering is all OK (not worn or loose), remove the spring off the steering dampener. Return to centre dampeners are a waste of time and seem to accentuate this sort of wobble. Get some castor correction wedges and bolt them in, greater castor angle will give you your 'return to centre' effect. The extended shackles will be throwing your castor out badly.
