Post by santaz351 »

i've just brought a high mount winch and got a few questions for you guys

1. where abouts can i get it check and serviced in melbourne?
2. what mods do you guys recommend to do on it? i do moderate to serious 4 wheeling but no comp work
3. are there places in melb that specialise with these winches in regards to mods

Why don't you have a crack yourself? They're a very simple design, and you can buy service and rebuild kits for them easily enough. There's even step-by-step rebuild instructions on the web for your reference.

Is it new or second hand? How old is it? Does it have any obvious issues?

its a second hand one, 6 years old and had no problems at all. I'd like a trained eye to go over it before i put it on the patrol

hey mate they are quite simple to check over and maintain, but being 2nd hand id ask to get the mator taken off and checked out, they can clean up inside of it to get a bit more life out of it, and for just weekend warrior duties i wouldnt worry about mods, maybe just get rear bracing added, but apart from that would just get it cleaned up and bolted on!

The closer the solenoids are to the motor the better but it's not critical. You're better off having a long run between battery/solenoids than solenoids/motor; especially considering the cost of decent cable.
