Heard of any 3L Patrol utes Blowing ?

Post by Bingham »

Was discussing this with some lads a week back and interested to see. So has anyone got confirmed reports of tick tick boom in the 3L patrol utes.. Not Navaras. and specifics if there has been.

Have been in a couple of them and motor certianly loves the lack of weight thats for sure.

Potentially will be a popular project car i suspect if there are a few that fall in coming years.

I dont think you will find any "grenade" utes. Nissan only had 4.2 TD as an engine option up until then end of the GU5's. When the released the GU6 they dropped the 4.2 TD and brought it out with the ZD30 common rail engine. My understanding is that the ZD30 common rail does not blow up.

The utes will be getting absolutely punished! I know any mine site and work utes get a caning.

I am sure that if it was going to happen there would have been evidence of it by now.

yes i am aware that the the 3L utes are a new thing but still been around a while.

The comments on common rails not blowing from what i understand is incorrect accross the range.

Yes good point mate

Prob same the the rumours about the wagons blowing.... me single handedly giving nissan a bad name without anything to back it up with

Was simply interested as was talking to my cousin about a 6L toy in a few yrs and i suggested utes may start popping about then and be a good thing to start with but had not heard of them as yet................. :finger:

These clutches going in 'average kms/work' or premature burning to make clutch assisted Torque on heavy work? ??????

If these common rail are bullet proof i shall have to chip the next wagon

if you try hard enough you will kill it.

the common rail does seem to be fairly solid and the only major horror stories seem to be coming from the typical diesel fuel problems all modern vehicles are seeing.

Just keep the wagon you got and get the boss to put a duramax in it, cheaper than buying you a new one.

Yes they can handle work as a fire truck

Yes they can get thrashed 24/7 in a Coal or underground mine

Yes they can be loaded with 1 tonne and then tow a 2.5tonne caravan day in day out

But ....... CAN IT HANDLE BINGHAM?????

So far, no 3L has been able to so far (4 and counting???) :D

The only thing that has not let go on our upweighted work utes (3.9t gvm) is the motors. Clutches by the box full, transfer cases, gearboxes, brakes, body falling to bits, tyres hitting the chassis, springs letting go, electrical grimlins and all under 60000kays but apparently (according to Nissan :) ) we are a little hard on them.

Its funny the 6 cylinder 1hz toyotas didn't have half the issues we have with the 8s and nissans.

Is the 3l in the utes the same as the one in the wagons? I'm presuming that since they didn't come with them until they stopped the 4.2 that these are from after Nissan did whatever it did to fix the issues with the zd30

nissan tough driveline eh.

toyota 1hz doesn't make enough power to damage anything its attached to, explains that one.
