Just a quick one...
Got the seal ordered through nissan spare parts and looking to replace it this weekend. Is it a simple replacement, or is there a crush tube of some sort in there that requires a correct torque setting??
Any tips on the removal and replacement of this would be great. I've done a few of these on 60 series cruisers, but never one of these on a nissan before.
Cheers

Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!
Re: Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
Check the seal surface for damage, no point putting a new seal in if the surface is damaged. Mine was so I had a Speedi Sleeve installed onto the pinion.
I had a pinion flange changed recently and I also asked about preload on the pinion and was told we just do 'em up nice and tight
That said I've had no dramas with it.
Something else they did was put a paint mark on the pinion nut so you can easily tell if the nut has come loose.

i can't get the nut undone its unbelievably tight. haven't tried heat yet though
Re: Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
There is no crush tube on a Patrol Diff, preload is set with shims. FT is normal for the nut.

Re: Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
Use a rattle gun, i have done about 10-15 of these and the best way is rattle gun. Cheaper style rattle guns dont pack the punch, either.hokey wrote:i can't get the nut undone its unbelievably tight. haven't tried heat yet though
Get out there!!
Re: Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
yeh my cheaper rattle gun definitely doesn't pack the punch so might try heat.
Re: Replacing GQ rear pinion seal
Two flippin long bars / pipe will do it.
One to lock the pinion so it wont turn
Another piece of pipe about 600mm long over the end of a breaker bar
Job done.
I have done all mine this way (transfer and diffs).
