real world results of superior arms

Post by sir_142 »

hey people,
looking at getting some super flex superior front arms for my gq shorty. The bloke at superior rekons ill get 10 inches more travel...... thats a big call. Just want to know what kind of improvement people are getting comparing standard arms and super flex ones, obviously with the correct length shocks.
Cheers

Thay are telling you the truth i have the one arm for the drop boxes, I'm running EFS Extremes the 10" travel fronts and 12" Rears and it uses every bit of it.

Very nice, sorry what do mean by just the one arm? Don't you have to run the pair? Or am I missing something?

If you have drop boxes you can replace only the passenger side arm with superflex arm and still use the drop box

or you can replace both arms with superior arms, superflex on the left and a drop arm on the right.

Yeah thats what i did working in the suspension industry and having driven vehicles with both, I prefer the brop box set up over the drop arms. I find it handles beter at speed over jumps and wash outs

I have these on my gq 5" lift flex is awsome . But under brakes dives on LHS and lifts RHS due to the design , so i wouldn't run them on a daily . Very unnerving at high speed braking .

I don't notice it in mine but as said before I have just the one in the left but I also still have a sway-bar in the front, and it dose make a diffrence. If you are going to use it on a daily driver you can only use a sway-bar on the drop box and one arm set up.

I ran the 7" superflex drop arms in my gu and had only very slight flex over the snake racing arms and poor handling. Just my experience.

The poor handling might have had more to do with the 7 inch lift

This is because the design introduces a crush rate difference between the left side and right side arm bushes. Basically the superflex arm crushes the bushes at a slower rate than the standard arm (because they are closer together) and therefore transmits this to the chassis as body roll towards the side with the SF arm. Therefore the drivers side arm is providing most of the braking force on the axle and lifting the chassis on that side.

Personally I don't like the characteristics of the SF arms and I prefer the bolt in/out method of getting flex off road. This gives the best possible handling on road and better flex than the SF arms when off, and that's from comparing it first hand.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.

Im running the 4-5" superflex drop arms in mine, had them in for around 1 and half years now, no sway bars, around 6" lift, 2" body lift, soft flexi coils, 8" lift TD BB adjustables all round, 35's and its my daily...

Handles fine for my liking. I have done over 70,000kms with this set up and have driven from Cooktown FNQ to Melbourne on all types of terrain.

I use all the travel in all shocks when off road (need longer shocks maybe or a locker) but I still find it handles great on the black stuff.

The steering wheel pulls to one side when under heavy braking but its due to the soft coils compressing under load pushing the drag link down which pushes the pitman arm out (Moving the steering wheel).

I like it how it is...

My 2c...

Cheers

Bump steer from panhard angle at ride height?

It works for ya so that's all that matters.

If your vehicle is in good condition eg. good quality shocks, undamaged bushes ,good tires, correct wheel alignment you do not feel any pulling on the vehicle during braking, i know this as we fit at least 3 pairs a week in our workshop, their all test driven , we have supplied them for many comp trucks running them in australia as well as overseas from rock crawling to high speed outback events and the feed back would be maybe less than 10 people unhappy with the design since the time of manufacture, further inquiries with these most have been using really soft coils and pro comp shocks.

I do not recommend pro comp or rancho shocks.

Everyones thoughts of a nice handling vehicle is different, if you want uncomprimised handling, leave your vehicle at standard height with road tires for that or go and by a commodore.

As mentioned earlier bump steer has a huge bearing on a nissan patrol .
Another thing i should mention is some resellers also fit their own bushes in our arms which we do not by any means endorse, this will have a bearing on the handling aspects of the arms.

I have driven many nissan's with conventional suspension that drive way worse than a super flex kit, it all depends on the whole setup as only one part that has wear can make it drive terrible.

The poor handling might have had more to do with the 7 inch lift
my statement was is my own comparison between two sets of drop arms at a given lift height not a comparison of handling at different lift heights. With a direct change of arms only this is the results i found.

these arms definatly made a difference over the previous snake racing arms but 10 inchs more travel was in my case not acheivable as a sole item replacement. although maybe a 3-4 inch increase in flex was seen, even with the shocks removed.

i agree

the pics posted aren't a true result of the superior arm

try dropping the passengers side, thats the one that binds up under drop not compression so much, you will never get the same flex out of them as you can with X-Link

Heres a shot of the passenger side droop.
I reckon the superflex arms are great, though i can't find anything nice to say about Superior.

How much flex do you need :? Or are you a ramp queen :finger:

Just because the tyre is touching the ground doesn't mean there is any down pressure on it to actually have traction..

Steel,

What else are you running in your setup?

Are shock mounts standard? Bumpstops?

that old chestnut!

yes, but it just may be enough to transfer that tiny bit of drive you need to keep momentum. It all adds up.
