Vic Crawlers.

Post by Cheezy4x4 »

OK up until now this has been a bit of a yetti or lock ness monster as I have been told, BUT it is alive and well. The venue is Calder Park in Vic, ( for those that dont know Calder, it is 20 min out of the CBD). There is 300 acres of land, thunder dome, race track, drag strip ect ect. It will be the later part of the year and will be man made tracks. We are getting over 50,000 tonne of rock delivered and sprayed with concrete to simulate slick rock (ala USA). There is over 2 acres of tracks for comp use in the first event and will expand to 5 acres in the second. This will be a permanent track that can be used ( after contacting me) for a range of uses. The first event will be invite only, followed by an open invite with three classes, ( Production, Production Mod and Open Classes). We have some big sponsers backing the comps and that allowes us to put up good prize money for most entered. I will be posting up all regs and entry forms very soon, SO WHO IS INTERESTED, remember if you dont come it wont happen.

As long as its BIG rock faces 1 or 2 cars lengths high and near verticle, and not just a pile of rocks that you have to CRAWL over than YES i will be there (If i get a Invite :) )!!!

CHEZZY, When the tracks are finished or Close to finished could you post some piccy's for us!

Sounds good!

seeing as though you can actually plan and build the course yourselves, with the area you have it might be a good idea to build different tracks for different classes..
not neccesarily just different routes..

i believe it will be a very scaleable. meaning it can be catered for mild to wild rigs. there will be numerous pre drilled holes in which to plant flexible flags. this theoretically allows a myriad of courses to be set.

This sounds awesome. If the courses turn out as good as they sound then I'm sure you'll attract a substancial Queensland contingent.

Like Adrian said. I think you really need to make these rock piles tall so that you got some good vertical climbs that are more than a car length long. But with the amount of material that you are talking about this shouldnt be a problem. I dont want to be crawling around a bunch of little rocks lying on the ground.

But if the tracks are good, the rules are good, the format is good and the timing is good then i will be there.

Count me in for either help or whatever. As to making sure it is all vetical walls etc I think variety is going to be a better option than jst one particular type of obstacle. So mix it up.

This is a very bizarre thing as I was just in the process of getting some ideas down to approach Calder park for running a comp. Ideally to setup a trials type event similar to Woodpecker/Nissan trials. Could be another option for their land too. Perfect location, close to the city, already habe all the infrastructure in place, understand the nature of motor sport etc

I was under the very firm impression that the entire calder park complex was on a very limited time frame due to the almighty "urban expansion" of the taylors lakes area. If thats untrue that is way cool ..

Rockcrawling 15 mins from home .. I am all for it.

Good one cheezy ..

Not being negative here but who is Paying for this?

50-000 tonne of rocks is aprox 5000 truck loads and ShotCreat cost thousands per hour to spray.

This sounds like a Million dollar project to me. For a sport that is not big in Australia.

Think what you like but where is it being held, that will help with your answer, also we have signed up some very large sponsers to help out. As for rock, the entire area is being developed and is rock, people are paying big $$$ to dump it. And yes this is costing big $$$, for the owners, sponsers and also myself, so you all better come and put on a good show.
Everyone can say what they want, but on the day just come and have FUN. :D

As i said Mark i wasnt trying to be Negative but was just asking a legitimate Question.

And as Sam(Strange Rover) has said if the timing is right i will be there. Just remember i work for Sam and for the both of us to travel down to compete could be a problem if we are too busy at work.

not trying to be negative but, so. he can't develop an event around the availability of a couple of people. I agree it can't clash with other events but if individuals can't make well that is too bad but can't be avoided.
