can anyone tell me what is the factory timing for an injected holdern 5lt 185kw engine.
thinking my timing has slipped again when i was playing near the dizzy... hard starting when hot... this has happened before.

10 degrees advanced with terminals 5 and 6 bridged on the diagnostic plug.
Now can you tell me why mine is currently running like a drunken pig?
Cheers

Yep rebuilt the bottom end as a consequence of dropping 4WD crud in the valley when I replaced the manifold gasket.macarthur 4x4 wrote:Struth wrote:10 degrees advanced with terminals 5 and 6 bridged on the diagnostic plug.

It lopes when it idles and has crap power delivery, so i thought maybe a manifold vacuum leak.
Just had the engine diagnosed everything EFI and ignition wise is spot on, even had the injectors cleaned and replaced the fuel filter and O2 sensors.
It's driving me mad.
About to bolt on a big inline fuel pump I have to ensure enough fuel pressure and volume, currrently runs at 280Kpa and should have 280 to 350. But it has ran fine with the current pump and pressure before.
Any suggestions would be great because next in line is a re ring due to big variations in compression (150 to 195 psi) no blow by or smoke in the crank case or exhaust though.
I am one frustrated puppy ATM.
Cheers
Re: TIMING ON ADN INJECTED 5lt
before replacing the fuel pump just crimp the return line off does the fuel pressure up and idle correctly....
Does it break up under power. When was the last time you replaced the leads and plugs.
Map senor???? is this not losing vacum. if you unplug the map sensor does it make a difference
I dont run O2 sensors in mine so it runs full fuel all the time.

Re: TIMING ON ADN INJECTED 5lt
Been chasing this problem for a month now, car has,
new leads,
new coil,
good plugs,
cleaned injectors,
new air filter,
new fuel filter,
new manifold gasket,
new O2 sensors,
scanned while running with no computer, EFI or ignitoon issues,
new knock sensor,
tried with new ignition module,
It's booked in to be diagnosed on a dyno on Monday as I am sick of replacing good parts for no gain.
It idles up when the fuel line is squeezed off but still lopes and also gains fuel pressure, the Toyota pump is also capable of over 450Kpa but I am not sure on it's volume capacity.
Idles up when the MAF is disconnected and I reckon runs better but not well enough.
Hopefully this next bunch of "Experts" don't just shrug and say we dunno on Monday.
Cheers

Re: TIMING ON ADN INJECTED 5lt
You said MAF sensor, is this a series III VS or VT motor? Or is it the earier motor with a MAP. if this has poor power, rough idle and uneven compressions but does not use oil then you might want to look at heads and cam. The earlier 5.0L with the flat tappet cam is prone to loosing lobes, they also burn valves when on LPG. The later engine VS III and VT is a roller cam and generally last longer. A common problem is intake gasket failure, I always use genuine, but that is usually associated with high oil consumption and smoke under high vacuum.

It's a VT with a Mass Air Flow sensor.PGS 4WD wrote:You said MAF sensor, is this a series III VS or VT motor? I am changing out the harmonic balancer this weekend as it appears to have too much movement between the two steel components, as in the bonded rubber has failed.
Short of that working it's off for diagnosis on a dyno on Monday.
The cam was visually checked when the motor was pulled down for big end and mains bearings.
Cheers
