What to look for

Post by wolfengo »

Hey all im looking at a 94 vitara to buy.

Its got a 1.6 efi engine, which has been rebuilt and its done 223,000 and its a 5 speed manual.
Its also 4 door with all eletrics

Im just wondering if theres anything to look out for(as in rust, gearbox, diffs, ifs, etc) because its done fair few k's now.
Its a very tidy little car and how much should i be paying because there asking $5000.

Cheers Aaron.

i recently bought my first vitara a few weeks ago i paid 3700 its a 95 model v6 h20a auto lwb no rust with 197000 klms might help you compare.

in my research they tend to get rust around the back door the front diffs are alloy and a known to explode especially with bigger tyres a steel diff can be had from a manual grand vitara and some autos i beleive.
also the g16b engines are known to crack heads and blocks in certain places im not exactly sure where.

hope this helps

Is there a reason why they crack around the head and the block and is it common??
Is it because of cooling issues??

a 94 is probably a 8V tbi motor and they don't have the cracking issues. i had one as a work car
and did 350,000ks in it with no major dramas.
