t-case hand brake
t-case hand brake
had a quick look in the bible, but couldnt see what i was after, but i did only have a blokes look... so if it is there i'm sure someone will have a ladies look and post up the link
just wondering if a 1ltr t-case mounted hand brake will bolt up to a 1.3ltr t-case... and also will the 1ltr hand brake cable fit onto the 1.3ltr hand brake lever?
reason for asking is i'm keen to do a rear disc conversion and would like to keep the custom parts to a minumum.... k.i.s.s. method
cheers

Re: t-case hand brake

switched case.

Re: t-case hand brake
Been a while but from memory the cable won't fit into a wide track lever (some 1.3 cases still had transfer brake, maybe all NT cases??) Get the lever as well to be sure. I would look at all options for rear discs like the Subaru, Nissan etc. I had the Sierra discs on the rear with Vitara vented fronts and the brakes were great but the handbrake is terrible (even with new genuine pads and a machined drum) first sign of mud and its all over. I am using the Subaru ones now and they are great, I think the Nissan's would be even better.
Re: t-case hand brake
cheers, but why would the nissans be beter than the scooby doo's?

Re: t-case hand brake
I reckon you wold be able to find some nissan calipers easier than suby ones.
I went cheap and nasty with my tranny handbrake and it works a treat. I found a pit bike Rotor with the same PCD as my driveshaft flange cost me $25 from UK, picked up a KSI cable operated Go-cart brake caliper, came with pads and adjustable shims, used 5mm plate to make up the adapter off the threaded holes already on the transfer, bolted up the caliper and it was within 3 mm of being spot on. Ground out the spacers a touch on the mounting bolts for the caliper and bang spot on fit. Used some trail bike cable knarps to connect the cable to the stock handbrake lever and its better than any drum disc brake setup. It holds on some crazy angles. The only disadvantage of a tranny brake is that if you are unlocked an have a wheel from each diff off the ground you will roll back.

Re: t-case hand brake
Hey mate,
I have just finished helping a mate do a rear disc convert on a Hilux. We used the Subaru L front brakes like suggested. We started to use the Nissan ones but found them to be to bulky and with out a heavy offset rim wouldn't fit. Now that was for a Hilux and the rear housing is different to a Zuki. I think the nissan ones would be a little over kill for a Zuki. I just spent the last 2 days in different junk yards looking for different parts for my Sierra and found that Mazda RX8 rear brakes look like they would be perfect the park brake leaver pulls the correct way and everything.
But getting back to your real question the cable on the n/t and the 1lt transfer brakes are different. Easy to modify but the are different. I have 2 N/T transfer brake set ups here at my house if you want you more then welcome to have them for a 4 pack of woodies or some extra dry. I also have the complete LOW RANGE rear disc conver kit if your interested they are still in the plastic. I never got around to putting them on now I have cruiser diffs they are useless to me.
PM me of you want.

Re: t-case hand brake
I used a go kart disc and caliper n mine also, i could have been one of the originals for this conversion, i chopped the std sierra handbrake cable down to suit.
