Re: custom chassis
n there would be no bends it would all be angled n welded with bracing at all welds
Re: custom chassis
A full custom chassis from scratch will be alot of work getting it engineered. The Fully custom 'Kit' cars come to mind.
Id rather have another normal chassis sitting there., but then you need the rest of the parts, And then it also depends on how hard your arse is reamed, making it an unrepairable writeoff. Then your starting another lux from scratch again..
So, IMO, Dont bother, Just make a stronger arse!

Re: custom chassis
Unless you're doing it to build it to a certain spec then it would be much easier and much cheaper to just get another chassis. But if it is for a certain project and needs to be built a certain way then it may be viable but would probably come under Individually Constructed Vehicle rules.

A few weeks ago I had one here that you could have HAD. Why bother?
Just shove some solid bar down the centre if you don't want it breaking with hard impacts*

thanks for the input guys l found 2 links on the net for chassis one was basically mandrel bent to specs came out gud

and another one but these are only for low luxes not HIGH luxes lol

in regards to the rods l'd been advised from my mates sis (cop) that rods in chassis,, if in an accident u can be sued for not advising the tranport department
the reason being for wanting a spare chassis is that l wanna git rid of the 93 single cab body keep 2.8 and running gear with 84 extracab shell and some death threats don't help lmao
will keep everyone updated on this thread may go different approach

Re: custom chassis
In lost as to the point. You're worried you may have a rear end collision so just in case you want to make a custom chassis for a very common vehicle sitting in the shed in case. Alsonot sure what the different cabs and death threats are about.

Re: custom chassis
every person to his own suppose may think waste of time but the point of owning a four wheel drive for me is to do better then wat they did at factory
death threats l ain't screwing round had my plates ripped off doors dinted and all my windows smashed but at the end of day l'm not movin away cause of some
idiot and he's mate
and these ain't a holiday thing mate l work 5 days a week l was just wanting peoples opinions if it's been done or not
different cabs like the old school extra cabs l had one but sold it just want the running gear of my current drive with the extra cab body

Re: custom chassis
seeing wat happens to my mates ute wen he got rear ended it was completelt stuffed yer might say there are loads at wreckers but most of them are a bunch of rip offs up here in townsville
and you'd have to make sure that chassis isn't bent n twisted a second hand chassis compared to 3 8metre lenghts of rhs rhs is cheaper but more complicated but meh l'll make it reinforce it to the max as off road use only and see how it performs
l'm a person that likes welding so l'll just put along with it
it's my daily drive aswell not something sittin in shed

Re: custom chassis
Sorry to highjack the thread macktuff. I've pondered doing a ground up build of a patrol or cruiser, completely fabricated chassis, suspension and all. Not a ridiculous build just basicaly a 4-5 inch lifted set up over standard and 35/36' tyres. So if it were possible, I would assume it to be like a hot rod build with the interval inspections. That way you could put whatever suspension in, provided it met the requirements that the engineer laid out.
Pondering is as far as I got with it so far as there must be some loop hole in the crazy QLD code of practice.
Anyway sorry for the Hijack, back to your OP.

Re: custom chassis
no worries bad mav sounds like a gud plan mate l was at one stage gonna do a ground up build but with the paper work involved with queensland transport it wasn't worth it basically hilux running gear rhs chassis and hummer slash ute cab basically box section frame with 1.8 mm steel covering it single cab hummer look a like everything was gonna be custom but as l said scratched the thought
in regards to my post it's all sorted he in jail for next 2 yrs yay karma comes back and gets ya one day
will be makin ground up built off road only hilux hybrid vechile
keep up the gud work on here guys
bad mav keep us all posted with ur project wen ya start it

Re: custom chassis
You will make an entirely new chassis, bnut wont weld bars into your existing one for legal reasons?
Cab swaps and all manner of shenannigans...
I now know what you are doing and me and my mate will find it easily, and we will break it like we broke your current car.

Re: custom chassis
One of my mates has built his own chassis out of RHS but it is because he is putting a Mini body over Hilux running gear with a coil sprung rear
I think it would be a farken stupid idea building one for a stock standard car when there are heaps of them laying around in wrecking yards.

Re: custom chassis
You don't want a super strong rear end in a rear end collision anyway as it will end up smashing up the passenger compartment and mangling everyone in it as well. Same with the front end in a front end collision - if it is super strong it will force its way back and kill all the passengers. Mr Toyota, GM, Ford, Nissan etc go to a lot of trouble thinking about these and a million other things when designing a car.

Re: custom chassis
You guys hanging shite on this dude are all as*holes. It's a perfectly good idea mate, i'm personally building a custom tube chassis with two complete spare chassis' for my 12 inch lifted ride on lawn mower in case it gets hit in the front end!! It doesn't cut the grass real well, in fact, it leaves the grass 12" taller than i would like but it does low 6's on the strip and is totally legal for the street.

Macktuff. I think it's a wonderful idea and I applaud you. Don't let some of the negative comments here sway you from your path. When a bloke on here invented the rivetable roller fairlead he had his fair share of haters but look at him know and where would we be without his wonderful creation? You're a pioneer my friend. The world needs more of you. Without people like you there would be no hi-clone. Halogen fluid and wiper shims would be but figments of our imagination and damn it, I know I couldn't live in a world without the old wheelbase cut and turn. No old mate, this world needs more people like you and I for one hope you see this through and keep is pictorially updated every step of the way.
