35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
i am llooking at getting a set of play tyres. i currently run 33s and wondering what is the largest size tyres you guys have succesfuly run under a 3'' lift in a gu? i have some 1'' coil spacers kikin around somwere at home and would consider getting some new shocks if need be. has anyone run larger than 35's with 3'' setup i want to keep my centre of gravity as low as possible but with as a big a wheel as possible. thanks fellas

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
i run 35 bfg muds on 3 inch and could not go a skeric bigger without longer radius arms or more space at the back of the arch. dont know what else that complicates.
i had to trim a tiny bit of plastic off and bend a little metal as it was to fit these, they rubbed a little at the bottom of the back of the guard.
maybe guard cutting to go bigger?

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
is it a wagon or ute?
would definately fit. may be some dicking round here and there to stop rubbing, but its do-able. I would think anyhitng bigger would require a lot more mods... also tyre brand, tyre width and rim offset will effect how it fits/rubs/works.

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
There's a SWB running 37's on only 2" lift somewhere - has been posted up in many of the "Can i fit 35's on my GQ?" threads. Good on you for going the low route, and not fitting a 8" Stuppedy Lift.buddo wrote:i am llooking at getting a set of play tyres. i currently run 33s and wondering what is the largest size tyres you guys have succesfuly run under a 3'' lift in a gu? i have some 1'' coil spacers kikin around somwere at home and would consider getting some new shocks if need be. has anyone run larger than 35's with 3'' setup i want to keep my centre of gravity as low as possible but with as a big a wheel as possible. thanks fellas
EDIT: That SWB is a GQ, not a GU, however there isn't a huge amount of difference there aside from the GU's having more plastic bits in the rubbing areas.

What width tyre, what rim offset as this will have a big bearing as well

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
JTop ran 38's with his 3 inch lifted GU but they were a narrow offset so they tucked up under the guard. I've seen plenty running 36's with no problems on smaller lifts in GU's, they have bigger wheel arches than GQ's so you will fit your 35's easy.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
If it helps I run 33s with no lift in a GU wagon with no rubbing.
They are on series 4 GU alloys on a Series 1 GU wagon.
I imagine they would work well looking at the clearance that I have on a standard type offset rim.
If it becomes and issue of rubbing a 1 inch bumpstop extension and a light trim and you'd be away!
I think it would look better with 37s and 3 inch personally.... go on... you want to!

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
well thats the thing mate i really do want too. i kno the 35's will be sweet but i would love to get bigger rubber under there, hadnt thought of the bumpstop idea do you mean hydrolic or just wacking a spacer in with the stock setup, anyone done it?
Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
i think superior engineering or someone sell radius arm spacers? move your diff further foward in the arch..
01 td42 GU patrol ute, with extra bits and pieces.

Re: 35" or biger tyres on 3" lifted gu?
I ran 37 in wrangler mtrs and changed down to 35 creepys with a 3in lift. Ran an inch bumpstop extension in the rear and cut the guards to fit properly. Better doing this than lifting it more.Keep your cog down.

which setup do you prefer
