Lift pump fitment on a turbo diesel

Hey fellas,

The old pump seems to be struggling to make the figures that I am after coughs and farts and takes its time to make boost and doesn't seem to be making much with 15psi max at a fairly highish rev range ( TD42, GT2876 turbo)

How much of a difference has fitting a lift pump made to other peoples setups? Less fuel starving, or more boost/power etc?

Any info would be good, I know its a bit of a band aid fix for another underling problem but you get that.

A lift pump will make sure that everything else will be able to do its job properly. Do it.

I also looked for the thimble filter but it appears it doesnt have one? Think the pump is off a black top rocker cover.

I had an electric pump fitted to mine just before the main filter. It made a fairly big difference for the cost. It saved me having to upgrade the injector pump too so in reality I saved money.

Also ensure fuel lines are 1, big enouigh and 2, not soft leading to getting sucked in.

I don't have a part number coxy but it was very similar to the one that Heath posted up. It was a few years ago now.

Thanks for that guys. How do they go as far as noise? They look like a pretty serious peice of equipment. Have you guys got them mounted under the bonnet to keep them out of harms way and reduce the length of the fuel line they're priming?

FACET simply don't flow enough (unless you change it to a dead head system).

carter etc should be mounted by the fuel tank as they don't suck fuel up all that well especially when dry. however its probably quieter and less prone to damage under the bonnet.
also would pay to fit a one way valve parallel to the pump, so if the pump dies the IP can still suck fuel through.

a holley red does the job but is a noisy piece of shit and runs full bore the whole time
then it started leaking.
so i pulled it out, and remembered just how much these motors flat spot without the lift pump, so had to do something.
ended up with a walbro FRB 51 im pretty sure.
good flow, only pumps up to pressure then slows down, so its not always working flat out, just fuel when you need it, does make a big difference.

they both flow fuel when no power is supplied to them.

i got mine through flexible drive agencies for around 240, took then 1 day to get it for me.
definately suggest this pump over a holley or similar.

Could an electric pump be of benefit to my turbo 2h with fresh inline pump? It's currently maxed out and egt's remain largely in check (takes a hell of a flogging to get up to 600deg pre-turbo). I'm not entirely sure if I've reached the limit of the pump or the head design/precomps. Running 15psi, gt2860 and water/air cooler.
