What air locker is this!

Post by 84sloth »

ive had this air locker in the shed for quiet some time. we pulled it out a 91hilux rear. I tried to fit it to my 84 hilux when i owned it and it was like the standard crown wwheel wasnt thick enough to mesh with the pinion. so im wondering if it is an air locker to suit 80 series high pinion. the only thing is i cant remember if the hilux i got it from was high pinion rear. can anyone help me theres stamping on it saying 'B2 2'

I was under the impression the lux ones are all the same.

There is however a difference in the housings which depends on the ratio have thicker or thinner crownwheels.

I've swapped the air lokker centres between hilux 4.3, 4.8 and high pinion centers. Only difference is there is a V6 model that has bigger bearings.

If it's from a lux it should fit the lux, especially if you are using the same gears from that centre.

the crown wheel that was off the locker was thicker. when i took the crown wheel off my open centre it wouldnt work coz it was thinner. will this locker work in the front of an 80? are 80 series crown wheels thicker than hilux. being reverse cut

I've swapped the between lux and 80 high pinion, but it needs to be a V6 lux centre to fit in a 80 high pinion carrier (bigger bearings)

Or can fit bindera high pinion if it's 4cyl.

I think it depends on the ratio, my high pinion centre is 4.88 and has a thick crownwheel.

the crown wheel out of a 4.8 center is thicker as the pinion is smaller compared to say a 4.1 center the crown is thinner and the pinion is thicker if that air locker is out of a lux it will fit all live axle luxs and im sure can be used in a high pinion as well . it looks like a early air locker which the only difference is the carrier bearings are 45 mill compared to the latter which are 50 mill .

Factory 4.88 stuf is not the same as the taller ratio stuff

if you remove the gears and with the right bearings you can use that locker in any "hilux diff"
