hilux steering problem

Post by macktuff »

g'day 4wders

l got a problem with my lux wanted to noe if any one has any suggestions besides the obvious cross over or high steer

got my front springs reset yesterday thay also put an extra leaf in doin this l put the passengers side leaf in no problem tried the drivers side and the drag link which connects to my steering arm hit on the rearward u bolt

l was wondering would l be able to flip the the ball joint on the rearward draglink so it clears it cause it looks as if it's threaded on they would need to be removable wouldn't for replacement

any help guys would be appreciated

thanks

I've heard it done but never done it. But you can grind the back of the ball joint and punch out the ball joint. Put it on top and weld the back of it up again. Should only be done by a good welder that will heat the metal first before welding and put it in something like lime over night to slow down the cooling process.

This should put the drag link on top of the J arm and clear the U bolts.

Very old school, but can be done.

Hope this is what your after.

You can get a flat top U bolt that might give the clearance.

Im pretty sure that the balljoint on my J-arm is on the top.
Ive had the Lux for almost 4 years now, and it was like that when I got it.

ball jiont on top l researched that on pirate4x4

from wat l've read up few guys had problems with the draglink hittin the shock and with thier post welding wasn't suggested because of the j arm being a cast iron forged part mainly breakin but cross over would be the better option might order one from the states

pm sent back yn67highlux

flat top u-bolts tomorrow put on then new steer pump next week then can give me mate his bike back lol

wont the short end on the front for a reason so it didn't hit the front spring hanger being that l put the extended on the front won't it hit ?

l'll play around with it on the weekend see wat the end result is

ah just another question peoples cause l've had the springs reset and an extra leaf put in how do l noe wat length shocks to put in any help would be appreciated thanks

That sorted it on mine. ln65, but should be no different for the ln106. Try this first as it would be your easiest and cheapest option.
