winch solenoid placement

Post by santaz351 »

hi all
i'm about to hook up my high mount winch to my gq. I don't really want to leave the control box on the top of the winch out the front, would much rather have it placed somewhere more protected. so my questions is can it be placed somewhere else? If yes, whats involved? do you need thicker cables etc

thanks

i put mine under the bonnet, near the red top battery, i used the same type of cable that came in the kit
because the power is traveling the same distance from the battery. haha well that's the theory i used anyway.

Yes you can.

They work OK in the orig position.
Engine bay is OK too but keep in area where the solenoids wont heat up too much as they can sieze in the bore.
Use cable at a minimum same size, bigger if you can.

I put mine behind the LH headlight in my GQ, on top of the inner guard. Had to remove the snorkel to intake pipe first to put it in though.
