hey guys,
im thinking about upgrading the brakes in the gremlux. its a 93 ln106 solid,
i was talking to my blueplatter yesterday and he says if i can use the entire braking systm from a car i wont need engineering and he can blueplate it. eg front and rear calipers, rotors, master ect from a gu?, drama is i can only find conversions that use different setups from different makes and models. eg roctoy brackets gq rotors and subaru calipers will need engineering before bluplating, has anyone used or heard of using a complete braking system out of another car to suit a hilux that has rear disks? and where i could start looking. any help/coments appreciated
and has anyone got roctoys setup engineered? how much was it? was it a pain in the ass?

The 80 series Master cyl and booster I just fitted to my lux went in pretty easily, only had to make the hole in the firewall a little bigger as the pushrod on the 80s booster sits a bit higher than the lux one.
And I know that the later model 80 has discs front and rear.

hey mate im in the some vote as you atm, need to upgrade the breaking system as im about to put about 300hp into my ln106 and may need to stop it was talking to thrashlux the other day about it, the 80 series system with the front and rear discs will go on pretty easy just need to make a bracket up for the rear i think to fit them. hope that helps and if you find a system or 2 let me know im looking atm

Roctoy makes and sells the brackets for the rear discs, PM him for info, but from memory they are $50 pair.

ill have to get my mate around to measure up the 80. im not sure how it will work with the locktup ifs widning kit im using on the front but ill have a look anyway. ill let u know what i come up with, brackets wont be a problem if thats all that is needed for rear.
cheers dudelux but as said above im trying to get out of engineering costs, if i can source a complete braking system from 1 car and put it on my lux it only needs a blue plate because its a proven working system. the last blue plate i got through him was like 80 bucks, in comparison to $$$$ for engineering costs to use hilux front with a cross breed subaru/patrol rear and cruiser master.
and still have to get a blue plate anyway...

sounds good highlux thats basically what im lookin at doin just got to source the 80 with the break set up if you go with it and make some brackets ill be keen to get some too

Maybe look at the 90/95 series playdo rear end, but IMO in the long run it will be less headaches to go with Roctoy's setup.

just put new pads on. going to see how the handbrake goes this weekend.

Went out to Lithgow this weekend. Got nice and muddy. Went through all the puddles. Perfect brakes on the way home.
The handbrake holds to about 15 to 20 degree incline on 35 inch tyres. About as good as muddy drums I guess.
I'm Going to play with more leverage on the mechanism.

nope all hilux stuff
the front has been upgraded to vented discs from later modal hilux i think... i got an 85 4runner. pretty sure they where solid standard.

The LN65 has solid rotors and the calipers have 2x 35mm and 2x 25mm pistons.
Some of the solid axle LN106 has vented rotors and 4x 45mm pistons.
Thats what I used for my brake conversion recently.
I used all the LN65 hubs and wheel bearings, and the upgrade was just bolt straight on.
The IFS Luxes have a different width rotor housing and hub spacers are needed if fitted to a solid axle.
