Hi Guys,

just after some confirmation... i have two 4-speed boxs that have slight differences such as an inspection cover on the passenger side...

i need to know if the box below is a H42????

it where you bolt a pto to, not an inspection cover :)

from what i remmeber your right that is a h42
the h41 has a cover on the pass side of the box and the reverse switch goes into top plate at the rear of the top cover horizontal not vertical like the h42
the h41 was also the 4 speed for the early J30transfer same as the 3 speed its not a split case like the one in your pic
and the cover your talking about is the transfer in that pic

ive now checked above with factory manual and its correct
71 fj40 front shackle reversal +3" , 55 rear springs +3", 35 15.5 claws , 60 diff's 4wheel disc's , SOON TO BE WINDSOR V8 + 5 speed
74 fj40 stock but very clean
84 bj40 3b stock and unloved

Strictly speaking, it should be a H41 gearbox, only the U.S got the H42, which has a higher 1st gear than the H41.

Its a late model H41 19 spline output..

so is the only difference the gear ratios???

is the case dimensions and bolt patterns the same???

yep you got it but just check your spline count is right
