coolant leaking into cab

Post by Oldmate Diesel »

Ok I have a 99 gu td42 patrol wagon and have noticed a wet smell in the cab and further investigation I have found water/coolant puddling in the front passanger footwell and the radiator down on fluid.
I have had a look up under the dash to see if there is a hose that is leaking but cant see much up there.

Does anyone know whether there is a hose or 2 that join to the heater under the dash or does the heater hook straight on at the fire wall.

To sort this out do I have to pull the whole dash apart and pull the heater out?
Has anyone had this problem before?

Any help is appreciated cheers

Its one of 2 things.

The easiest thing to check and fix is the air con drain hose. Its a drain that comes out of the box that surrounds the condensor and drains the condensation.

The other is as you suspected and what happened with mine was the heater core was leaking. My engine temp was rising quite a bit as well when this happened. Living up in Townsville I just bypassed the heater and it was fine.

If it's coolant, it won't be air con hose. Most likely heater box. Just replace it. I'd suggest doing heater hoses at the same time.

half inch copper pipe about 40mm long and use it as a joiner in the feed and return on the engine bay side of fire wall all done, till next winter!
