Hilux soild rear tailshaft?

my center bearing has gone again and im thinking about putting in a solid rear tailshaft. my questions are, is there anything else i have to change when i do it? is it simple as just measuring from the center of the diff to the center of the transfer (middle of the tailshaft)? how much ruffly does it normally cost to get it made/balanced professionally?

Some of the later Luxes had 1piece tailshafts.
Theres info here somewhere on what to get one off.

But if you get another centre bearing, fill the rubber boot full of sikaflex, apparently, the bearing isnt failing, its the rubber boot around it that gives up.
So fill the rubber full of sikaflex a few days before fitting, and you should be good.
I cant remember what sikaflex to use, but its black.

I have a 1993 lux and used a 1 piece off a 2004 ln167r, just got it shortened a bit.

No mods to put one in, just unbolt all the 2 piece one, measure centre drive shaft flange diff to transfer and get it made to suit.

Not sure if there is one to bolt in without still getting custom length.

na the rubber is intact basically the bearing feels like its got a whole handful of sand in it, makes a noise like crickets when driving

would it be a better idea to do my suspension work before i get a new solid tailsharft made? cos when i lift the length changes doesn't it?

Yeh in the rear it prob will because of the length.

But if you are getting one made you would be silly to guess, may as well lift it and then get it made to suit

series 1 4runners use a 1piece tailshaft.
Saw a few go on ebay for $20 before.
Same driveline as a lux. Will have to measusre it, as a 4runner chassis is shorter than a lux, so you could run a tailshaft spacer if it came to it.
How much lift do you have?
As I have trailgear 4inch superflex rear springs in mine and it doesnt slip out. And thats with no tailshaft spacer.

I think its the 2wd 90's luxs which have a 1 piece which simply bolts in.

places that know what their good for charge 300ish, places that dont might be alot cheaper.

2 piece are a pain.

hey mate, just had a single peice tail shaft made for my hilux extra cab.

Got quoted $240 for the conversion, this is if your uni's and splines are in still good order.

mine cost me $697.70 because the guy I bought it of decide not to raise the hilux properly and the spline had pulled apart to much and caused wear/play in the spline, this damage was accelerated also due to shuddering on take off, again, because they didnt do the lift proberly....

The hole point of Toyota putting in a 2 piece tailshaft on the extra cabs and dual cab models was because the tailshaft was too long and hung to low, a two piece shaft sits much higher, the tailshaft would be the first thing that got hit when approaching the obstical once front wheels were up. This becomes even worse when you lift the truck . Dont buy check shit centre bearings and you wont have an issue... . I ran a 2 piece tailshaft for yrs in my first comp truck running a V6 5 speed on 38.5's.... and never once replaced a centre bearing. But i have also fitted cheap centre bearing to mates cars and they dont last 10000kms....

Moral of the story you get what you pay for.....
