How to lock a Hilux. Auto/air, front/rear.

Post by chunkz »

Hey guys,

I know this has been posted before but a lot of arguments came from it and nothing conclusive.

With the forums blessing (because I don't know much) I'm thinking of buying one tjm air locker (I am under the impression the tjm compressor is much better and can be used on your tyres as well, correct me if I'm wrong) and I want to buy a recommended auto locker.

Now the problem is,
which one for the front?

which for the rear?

what brands?

Cheers

From everything Ive read, go the ARB air locker. Put it in the front, that way, you can switch it on/off depending on your situation.

Then, when cash allows, go the same for the rear.

I have a LockRight in the front of my Lux and love it. Easily the best mod I have done on the Lux. With HiLux's all the weight is on the front end, and generally they flex better so it makes sense having as much traction as possible up front. I have a mate with a rear air locker in his Lux, and with the same tyres my lux goes further than his. (flame suit on) Either way the best bet is two lockers, and with Locktup selling Lockrights for $400 how can you go wrong!

it comes down to price and how much you have to spend......

auto lockers are good and half the price of an air locker.... but only if there set up correctly so it unlocks., and woulld only run one in the front not the rear as they engage under power (most anyway).

If you have the money go an air locker plenty of brands out there these days, ARB, TJM, GRIZZLY etc... they all do the same job and as just as good as each other, there is also china built arb copies that are good

Figure out your budget and work from there.....
