Watch out for this 4x4 shop

Post by slosh »

I need advice. Last October I ordered a custom part (made in-house) from a certain well known shop dealing with all things 4x4.

Despite paying them around $1000 last December, and phoning them STD almost 100 times, I am still yet to receive the goods. They have made it clear that my business is low priority; I guess living 900 kilometers away helps there.

I have waited patiently for over 5 months. I've seen lots of other projects from this shop appear on this website.

What should, or indeed can I do? Has anyone else been in this situation?

Call office of fair trading and tell them your story, they will investigate on your behalf and badger the company into action hopefully. So you have receipts and paper work supporting your claim ?

Although no-one likes involving the coppers, go and lodge a complaint asap. Get written confirmation from the coppers, then go to the small claims tribunal and lodge a complaint against the shop. Send a copy of the notice to the shop and then wait. Otherwise, take a 12inch shifter and smash the fucker across the collar bone. The medical bills should ad up to $1000 and all is even!!!!!!! :D

When you sent money to him was the part going to be sent then or was it a deposit, 5 months is to long to wait for anything it doesn't matter what problems or BS he is telling you, get your money back and go somewere else, and you should name them, if they promote there stuff on here they should take the flak for bad service on here as well.

I would agree on what evryone has said here, even if it was a deposit, 5 months is just way too long, even if you live 900k's away, or next door, i know od delivery issues, but hey, people dont mind waiting a couple of weeks, id say tell us who they are, get in touch with their mannager, and tell them that you will be heading off to Department of fair tradine, and see what happens.

don't mention their name as in this day of suing people for spilling hot coffee on yourself, libel is all to easy to get done for. You want to be professional about this even if they aren't. Approach them again with a letter spelling out you grievance and what you expect to be done to fix it.

If nothing happens within a reasonable time frame ( a week) then forward the letter you sent and all the details to fair trading and go from there.

If this shop is indeed doing this to alot of people maybe you should contact TODAY TONIGHT or A CURRENT AFFAIR.
All the things they have on of a night dealing with shonky shops and people who rip you off, their bound to have lawyers that know what they can and cant say.

Expose the pricks this way so we can all be wary of people and shops to stay clear of.

was it a custom part, or was it something they were ordering in from another supplier or country? There can be legitimate reasons for parts taking long times to be manufactured however that doesn't excuse shoddy customer relations. They should provide you with an adequate explanation at least and the opportunity to get your money back if you feel that it has got beyond a joke.

Also guys remember there is 2 sides to every story, so before you get out the noose and throw it over the nearest branch, make sure you know all the facts.

Bad mouthing a retailer on here can do a lot of damage to someones reputation and while everyone can grow from constructive criticism, I am sure Tony is watching closly with one finger on the locked key :)

We all like a bit of good gossip and I am not taking sides here guys I don't even know either party, I am just saying make sure you have all the facts before you give advice that may be lynching an inocent person

Watch out for this 4x4 shop

Well, that got a response! I'm not a mongrel, I won't name the shop, and true, there are two sides to every story.

To be fair, I have been offered my money back, but hell they are so slack it'd probably be another 5 months b4 I get that.

It was for a front tube bar. I waited 2 months for the first one, and it didn't fit. After paying for it, I waited another 2 months while they were very busy. Another was made, but "lost in post". So another was made, and again "lost in post".

I don't know what to think. If they were lost in post fair enough. But what really sux is that they don't give a stuff. In all this time, in all my attempts to find out what is going on, they have rang me back only once.

The proprietor of the shop is a good bloke, but his PR skills suck.

If I don't have the bar by next week, I will be asking for money back, and looking for someone else (?).

Thanks for advice everyone.

Josh.
