LPG tank removal

Post by Ryan »

k time tomorrow to rip out the LPG tank and replace with one thats not so old.., (if i can find one lol) it has 2 fittings on it, one that has a tap then the hose goes up to the motor and the other is the filler hose, ive turned the tap off and taken the hose off that fitting, how do i take the filler hose off its still got bout 30 letres in it or do i leave that on and send the tank to the gas dude with the filler hose still connected? also when i put the new tank in it will obviously be empty, does that mean i have to tow it to the servo to fill it up?

may be dumb Questions but hey, only one way to find out

the fill point has a one-way valve on it, you can safely disconnect it.
your local LPG man will be able to lend you a hose to decant from a BBQ bottle, or you can just tow it...

Or...

Remove your filler hose and put it on the new bottle, drive to the servo on the old tank and fill the new tank.

Is it duel fuel?

When I removed mine, I just ran it dry, basicly until the engine would not idle on gas. I then turned the tap off on the tank, removed both hoses and the straps holding the tank in....easy as. You do still smell a bit of gas when the hoses are removed, but nothing to worry about.

Just beware of the new tank having the inlet/outlet connectors in different places. This happened to me and it was a pain in the ass to sort it out.

ok so where do i unbolt the filler hose from, where the hose joins to the fitting on the tank end? and is it safe to remove the tank with gas still in it?
also, need to use a rattle gun on the bolts holding the tank in, am i gonna explode if i do that ? lol

Cheers

yep, disconnect the hose from the fitting on the tank. don't remove the fitting as it has the safety valve in it!

you can move it safely with gas in it, just be prepared for it to be heavy, and hard to balance as the liquid sloshes around in it!

What size tank do you need.

I have an APA A80 tank for sale at Ebay. It holds abut 63L.

If you are in Victoria it could be quite handy.

They are not hard to put in. It is alsmost brand new, only had 1 fill.
