Hi all,
With the exception of the factory 5 speed, what's the best, most common truck to pull the bits for a conversion?
BJ6*'s, BJ7*'s and BJ42's are very thin on the ground over here in Perth.
Also, is slotting in a 75series front diff a straightforward excersise into a '79 BJ40? Mounts need moving or am I going to get lucky and it be a bolt in swap?

why did you want to put the 70 series diff in the front? is width youre looking for?

i'm guessing its for the disk brakes.
Not sure but I THINK the width is the same. you might need to move the spring perches slight but not sure as I haven't done this myself. You might need the other brake bits if you're doing it for the disks (vac canister, booster, etc).
I know of someone who's put a 75 diff in the rear and as far as I know they did a straight swap.

Yeah width would be good, but it's the disc brakes i'm chasing, and the Aisan hubs.
No word on where to get the 5 speed from fellas?

Put up wanted adds and call every wrecker you can for a 5 spd, they are not easy to get at all.

Would probably be easier to swap the brakes onto your current housing. Should just bolt on. Otherwise the width is the same and perches should be same width also. They use differnet u bolts and plates between 75 and 40 thats all. Measure up the two to check widths before buying and fitting.
5 speed is a pain on BJ's as the input shaft length is different to 60/75. Best bet is BJ42/7# 5 speed and modified driveshafts. Most difficult to find...
