Rear axles
I am looking at buying some cromoly cvs and axles, i only have 31s on at the moment and wont be going any bigger then 33's just wondering if i should get rear ones aswell or just wait till i break them?

Have you broken them on 31's?
Really depends on driving style. I know someone that can snap bigger vit axles on 29's...
I run 33's, rear is permanently locked. I have never snapped a front cv/axle, but open diff front.
The only time i have snapped a rear axle was when the centre gave way from too much backlash, and dropped the carrier, shearing the axle...

it is usually on a track, buried in mud, in the rain, whilst surrounded buy mates who are being held up, getting wet and wishing you had put your chro mo's in last week end.
Fit the chro mo's and leave the spares at home.

I have seen a few snapped chromo rears, but not front ones, i dont think they're any better than the stock ones.
With and without lockers, i've broken a stack of cv's, but have only ever stripped the spline on rears once due to cracks in my side gears.
Spend the money on something else.

upgrade ur front ones, i ran 33 jt2s and never had a problem, also ran cromos in the rear and broke them, ya better of with standard axles in the back.

Thanks for the info, i havent broke anything yet, might just get the fronts for now and hope the rear holds up.

Your saying you busted Chro-mo's that are undeiably way harder to kill that the standard units ... but you recommend standards in the back .. I would have thought that you would simply kill the stock ones sooner.

i have snapped over 15 rear axels in my vitara... on 29's and 31's.... i do have a rear locker and heavy right foot...
i would get the chromos...

It is a new type of locker Joe (keep up!) the right axle is 300mm longer than stock and goes all the way through the center engaging both side gears, then the left axle is 300mm shorter and it is joined to the the other with an internally splined sleeve providing positive locking of both axles, air lockers are "so" yesterday.
