Blue slip woes!!!

Post by thehanko »

This isnt the normal winge about rego places not passing my 37inch tyres!

Blue slip on an 87 LWB style side sierra.

The inspector wants the seats changed - but we think they are origional seats which have been reappolstered - even down to the suzuki badge on the headrest.

His other gripe is a piece of metal blanking off where the tray meets the open cab to help keep the weather out, he said that part needs to be welded in and engineered as it is now a ute??? but they never had that semi firewall in the first place.

All we can think of is to get photos of other utes to demonstrate that this vehicle is normal and not 'modified'.

so any photos of your origional sierra seats late 80's ideally and photos of the back of your utes showing the back of the seats with the top off and the tray running into the cab would be very helpful.

Plus any other suggestions as to how to convince the guy of how a sierra was built.

cheers
Ben

When you get failed on a rego or blue slip the person doing it can white slip you it makes it to where you have to come back to them after you have done your repairs to be passed. It is ment ot be done to every car that is failed but not many places actually do it. After 30 days the white slip is dropped.

has the tub been cut off?

Every soft top sierra is a 'ute', whether it has a seperator or not. Only the indian 'maruti's had them. Check to see where she was built. jap is suzuki, india is maruti.

Sierra front seats normally have 2 holes in the headrest, then arch down to the seat., but if its a maruti, id be surprised if they had a headrest.

Tub hasnt been cut the body is std, just without the hard fiberglass canopy, has a soft top roof over the ute cab, at the bottom of that is a ehm recycled street sign which the previous owner put at the front of the tray to stop stuff in the tray joining you in the cab.

pretty sure its jap but will double check

Its not so much that its there - its that he thinks that since its a ute now (as if it wasnt always a ute) that it should be built into a structural part of the car.

But I think we are sorted at this stage - we are looking at going to see another place who might know more about sierras.

I was worried about this.

He is correct, We are having to alter parts which were questionable to ensure its legit and not a dodgy pass - the only difference is this mechanic knows sierras.

On that note, does anyone have the rear mount for a set of seats? the plate which bolts to the floor - dreaming of finding something local and soon.
