Mk Leaking exhaust manifold... Fix it? Leave it?

Post by Vanne »

Hi, my mk has a leaking exhaust manifold (diagnosed as when I put my foot down it makes farting noises when under load)

I don't really give a shit about the sound, but lately, my car has started to smell inside at times when driving ESP under load it smells like fire.
Iam thinking the exhaust fumes are somehow getting inside the cabin, but how would that happen and where from?

Like I said, I don't give a shit about the sound, or loss of power, but i don't wanna fume anyone inside the cab. It's the standard exhaust system. Lwb. Any idea where I should look?

Iam pretty certain the farting noise comes from the gasket between the turbo and exhaust. Ie the turbo outlet. Not the Inlet. But could that get in the cabin?

Cheers...

The somewhat silent killer. Those fumes you can smell can and will make you pass out if concentrated enough. Just the wind blowing past the windows will create a vacuum that draws the fumes in through holes in the floor or the rear windows/seals.

Don't be tight, fix it.

And if money's tight, don't drive it until you've got the funds to fix it. You'll probably cover your engine bay in soot too if you keep driving it.

heh, turns out the boot that covers the gearshifter is shagged and thus allowing all kinds of crap into the cab... new boot required.. :)
