Bighorn VS KM2
Hey guys
i was all set for getting kumho KL71s but theres no stock in australia and wont be for some time...
so now im back to choosing a different tyre, and based on previous info the km2 and bighorn are well respected on rock. (summer is lots of rock and shale for me).
Obviously theres a huge price difference - bighorn = $214ea, km2 = $316ea
From personal experience, does the KM2 really outperform the bighorn that much??? They're going to be on my sierra in 31x10.5r15.
Cheers!

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
i got quoted $320 each for 33inch KM2's yesterday i have been steered towards them by a mate whos been off roading for 20 years he reakons they are worth every cent
Re: Bighorn VS KM2
You sure that you can't get Kuhmo's KL71's had a mate pick up a a new set of them this past weekend from fourbys, had to wait about 4 weeks but.
Re: Bighorn VS KM2
ive spoken to travis at fourbys and he's chasing stock, but west coast and east coast warehouse have none left, and fourbys have none in stock - but travis was seeing if he could find some... im just doubtful he will.
the dilemma i suppose is the $100 difference either way - kl71 are around the same price as bighorns... so over a set of 4 the KM2s are $400 more expensive! enough to buy 2 spares of the other tyre... lol

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
Ive flogged the bejesus out of my Bighorns for the last 30,000km.
They still look almost new and perform well in all conditions.
Concidering they are more than $100 each cheaper than the KM2s. They are also great value.

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
i have had bighorns for going of 50k and they are great in mud and on rock, they dig big holes in the beach... but i don't have much experience with km2 but for 100 buck diff i would stick to bighorns
cheers
cheers
Re: Bighorn VS KM2
i have km2 they r worth every cent i would say there properly the best radial on they market at a guess 15000km on them seem to wear alright
Re: Bighorn VS KM2
I have Bighorns. About 50-60000 km on them now. Just got back from the canning. No problems. Another vehicle in our group had KM2s (almost identical vehicle). It went well also, and no tyre issues. The vehicles with ATs didn't go as well (especially in the mud) and one staked a tyre.
I am 100% happy with the bighorns - both for touring and rock/mud/sand. They are not as tough as the MTRs on my other vehicle though. I have managed to puncture 2 of my bighorns (one staked where the tread meets the sidewall). Both have been repaired and are still in use.

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
I just had this same dilemma. $100 cheaper per tyre in my size also so $500 saving for me. I was advised that the KM2's noticeably better on rock and in mud but not really $500 better in my eyes (I'm a tight arse, especially when its time to purchase wheels and tyres cost a third of what I can sell the car for...)
My bighorns have been fine so far, but not even 500km on them. I hear they wear at about the same rate too. The only major benefit I think might be worth it is that the KM2's are supposedly quieter as they wear but my disco is no longer a daily driver for me so that was a non issue also.
I ended up getting my tyres from Bob Jane in Armadale too. Ken sorted me out at an equivalent price of bringing them in from over east.

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
have had bighorns for over 4 years now in 32s,now 33s and i love em especially for the price.Previous to that i had kumhos and BFGs and think the bighorns perform great
only real issue now is that the bighorns have changed their tread pattern.A mate got a new set in 31s for his hilux last week.Dont know how they go

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
I've been running KM2's on my cruiser for almost a year and so far they have been very impressive, excellent performance in the bush and not too bad on the road either. Had 2 sets of the old BFG muddies before that and got 80,000 kays out of both sets and they still had life left in them.
75 series cruiser. Turbo, 5in lift, 34's, rear locker and other goodies

haha yeah for sure, by why wouldnt you offer the new product to see how it goes rather than just deciding people dont want it? lol

Re: Bighorn VS KM2
just got a quote from lindsaytyre.com.au of $275ea for the maxxis 764... add freight and im guessing its going to be around the same price as the KM2. Still waiting on fourbys to price it for me, but its looking more and more like i'll bite the bullet and go the KM2.
edit: fourbys called back - no stock of the 764 in australia and no ETA on arrival of it.
