turbo longevity

Post by forkcy »

Hey guys

I’m helping a mate turbo his 1hz and just after some information. his after long turbo life and I’m trying to find out how may kms you could expect out of a disco potato (max boost 9-10 psi, motor rarely sees 2000 rpm and will be running front mount IC) or would he be better of with a ct26? I don’t know if he will get much boost before 2000 rpm with a ct26? Any info would be great.

My mate can put around and get real good econmy only running up to 2grand in his 100 with garrett but you'll be sittin on 2400 2500 revs on the hwy. If you drive on the beach in soft sand you'll be running at more than 2000 to keep the revs up and on boost. Whats the point of owning a gun if you don't shoot it?

Hey Rowenb

As I said before mate the old cruiser rarely sees 2000rpm. i’m sure when his on the high way it would see more than that. But that was more of a description of trying to work out how long the turbo would last. All I’m after is has anyone rebuilt this turbo and how my km were on it before you had to do it.

TO3 turbo is the best way according to the 4wd turbo applications expert i spoke to today, its exactly the same size as the turbo from an RB30 VLT the only problem with using the Nissan TO3 is that the rear exhaust output is a bit different, its suited to the vl commo, but for $1400 you can get a general all purpose TO3 dirrect from Garret... hope this helps you.
