I am looking at swapping the cab off a fj45 ute onto a 91 lwb gq wagon chaddis. It will use the existing engine (td42), and driveline and susension from patrol. I plan to have as many fibreglass panels as possible to keep it nice and light.
I am after any words of wisdom regarding what areas are going to be difficult and any information regarding engineers who aprove this type of work etc.
would I be able to simply plumb the landcruiser brake and ckutch masters up to the patrol slaves? Or will there be too much of a difference in flow rates etc?

Alot of people have done it with a 80 series chassis and gear, then it is still called a landcruiser also.
And then you wont get mixed up with the holden/ford - toyota/nissan redneck rivalry.

Pretty sure bjonroids used a GQ shorty chassis and running gear (except for motor and box - Lexus V8) for his shorty build. Looks great!

Not quite the same but Bad Mudda has a 45 cab and chassis on top of GQ diffs and drivetrain with a 5.0L commodore motor built by Agro automotive. Is a sweet truck! Have a search in members.

hahaha i realised that some landcruiser/patrol diehard fans may find it an abomination... but i cant pass up the classic fj tough looking ute on bombproof gq running gear with unbreakable td42 turboed powerhouse I have had and loved both trucks and currently still have a maverick.

There was a bit on this a while back, and the advice from the engineer was to fit the patrol/landcruiser coil suspension etc to the 45 series chassis, thus keeping it a "45 series" with suspension modifications.
Reason being was that the 45 series could not possibly pass the body crash test thingy as it was an old design in comparison, so by keeping the body with the original chassis it wouldnt need to be engineered in this way.
bit vaugue I know but I think their is more in it than it seems.
I really like the idea myself of the classic look 40 on a good handling coil package myself so Good Luck with it.

Cheers, I definately need to find an engineer to get the rundown on cans and cants before I get started.
