Repairing body mounts

Post by Frankenyota »

Just bought an 85 xtra cab hilux that has a 2" body lift, and where the body lift mounts to the cab it has cracked the cab.
I would like to know the best way of repairing this.
Should i just reweld the cracks up, or add some metal to support the area?

Cheers Matt

Try and line it up so the body is back in the original position then weld.
Then plate it with some 2mm sheet.use a decent sized piece and it shouldn't crack unless your jumping

my bodymounts cracked on my 80. so i welded a piece of 50x6 flat under under the original mounts and then shortened the body blocks by 6mm. worked well. sucker wont crack now.

before you weld the crack, drill out the very extremities of the crack so that it cannot go any further, weld it up, then as mentioned weld a plate in to support the body where the mount goes

Getting rid of the body lift altogether.
So i will drill the ends of the cracks and reweld it all back up.
Then add some 2mm thick plates to support it.
I noticed the bolts for the lift blocks were also loose.
Thanks to all for the help :D

i would tend to think it was the loose bolts that caused the problem, as the body would have been able to move against the body blocks with force, like when of road or even just a harsh enough bum in the road
