2KD-FTV in to Hilux

Post by sirhcjw »

Hi I am looking in to putting a 2KD-FTV in to a '95-'97 dual cab to replace the 3L.

I have not bought the Hilux yet I had a '94 4runner 3L turbo until a year or so ago and was not all that impressed with the IFS so I am going to get a solid front and rear dual cab but I was thinking a new DOHC more powerful and more economical 2.5L D4D engine would be a good choice for a conversion. My main concern is the gearbox it would be great if the W58 from the 3L ( some one correct me if I am wrong ) would bold up with a R series bell housing or will i have to use the R series gearbox and transfer case and adapt that to fit. the rest of the drive train?

Or is this a stupid idea and should I just forget about the whole thing and stick with a 3L or 5L?

Any one who has done this or has any links or thoughts please let me know

Cheers

Chris

No crazier than a 1kz conversion. But I would think the 1kd would be easier to do. Get a wrecked hilux and use the complete engine gearbox and transfer.

Yeah I did think of that but I think the 2KD would be better on fuel and if I get the whole kit and caboodle imported it should go in ok.
